My Favorite Holiday Tradition: Baking Holiday Cookies

Started by TidyMom , author of TidyMom 12/21/2011 5:00:10 AM

Holidays and traditions go hand in hand and International Delight wants to know what your favorite holiday traditions are. Tell us and you could win a $200 Target gift card! SWEET!

Trimming the tree and decorating the house while we listen to Christmas music are the first traditions that come to mind, but my favorite would have to be baking cookies.

Each year the recipes might get switched around a little, but some continue to make an appearance every year.

Everyone has their favorties, so I ask each family member what cookie they HAVE to have that year, then we go thru our recipes to see if we've forgotten any must haves, and I usually give one new recipe a try.

Some of our favorite holiday cookies to make

TidyMom Holiday Cookies

Decorated Butter Cookies with Royal Icing

Rum Balls

Eggnog Cookies

Krispie Peanut Butter Balls

Mint Chocolate Chip Cookies

Shortbread Spritzer Cookies

Snikerdoodles

Raspberry Filled Butter Cookies

Lemon Burst Cookies

Baking cookies is a tradition I shared with my mom while growing up, and have continued to do so with my girls. I hope to have grandchildren some day to bake cookies with and carry on the tradition for another generation.

Now it's your turn! Tell International Delight what your favorite holiday tradition is for a chance to win a $200 Target gift card from BlogFrog.

Add some cheer to your coffee or baking this season with International Delight's holiday flavors. Enjoy the taste of Peppermint Mocha, Pumpkin Pie Spice,  White Chocolate Raspberry, Vanilla Spiced Rum or Gingerbread Latte and stir up a moment of sweet inspiration.

My favorite tradition is sitting down together to watch "a christmas story" on christmas eve! And also a new tradition that we started last year is the elf on the shelf! He's always doing silly things or leaving small gifts for the children!

My favorite tradition is getting the whole family together for breakfast at my Grandmother's house on Christmas morning. It's a great time of awesome food and fellowship together :)

One of the many favorite holiday traditions in our family is eating grandma's Red Velvet Cake, a recipe that she prepared for I don't know how many Christmases, but easily more than 30 just going off my own memory. My grandma died earlier this year, and so this year, I volunteered to make the cake for our family's celebration. I'm not an experienced baker, so it took me several trial runs over the past few weeks to finally figure this cake out. If anyone's interested, though, the recipe is available at my little blog, saucyskillet.blogspot.com

My husband and I are still working on our traditions but growing up one of the best one (that my parents still do) is "tree day". The weekend after Thanksgiving we pick out and cut down the tree from a tree farm, set it up and decorate the house and then finish the day with "traditional" chicken wings and the 1st Christmas movie of the year, typically Christmas Vacation much to my dismay.

Hanging all the stockings on the railing of the steps. We've added 4 new ones this year! they are the most fun to shop for. Evertwhere I go I keep finding things to put in them. My grandkids just love it!

Decorating the house with my 2-year-old, this is the first year he is understanding things like Santa and snowmen! Makes me feel like a kid again with him experiencing all the holiday magic!
