Started by TidyMom , author of TidyMom 8/5/2011 7:03:00 AM

With all the hot hot temps we've been having here in the midwest, we have been making a lot of smoothies.

One of our favorites is this

Wake Up Smoothie:

  • 1 1/4 cups orange juice
  • 1 banana
  • 1 1/4 cups frozen berries, such as raspberries, blackberries, blueberries and/or strawberries
  • 1/2 cup low-fat plain yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar (optional)

blend all ingredietns until creamy. Serve immediately.

makes 3- 8oz servings

I'd love to hear your favorite smoothie recipes

I love adding spirulina to our smoothies for some added green goodness.

We absolutely LOVE smoothies here.  We normally do 1 large tub of yogurt in the blender with fresh fruit and then top it with milk and add in a little flaxseed. Blend.  Scoop out enough to fill popsicle molds, freeze those, then top the blender again with more milk to finish off with smoothies that the kids can drink while their popsicles are freezing.

Stephanie:  I love that idea of adding in coconut milk to it.  I'm going to try that one.

Here's a favorite smoothy of mine for those who can't do milk

2 tablespoons of almond butter

2 tablespoons of hemp protein powder (or choose another)

8 oz of almond milk (or soy milk)

1 frozen banana (optional: add frozen berries too)

Great for beating the heat!
