Fun Notes in Lunch

Do you tuck little love note in with your child's lunch? I loved when my mom did that for me.

Aaaww.  What a great idea!

Here are some empowering phrases you could put on the lunchbox notes:

  • "You can't learn if you don't make a mistake."
  • "Be yourself."
  • "Believe and you will achieve."

Cheers, Kelly

Kelly, those are terrific! Including messages of empowerment would be great as a little reminder and to help kids get back on track if it was a particularly difficult morning.

Those are especially great for kids who may not want some squish love note from mom.

Okay, I really need to find a way to do this while homeschooling!  Maybe notes on the mirror in the bathroom when they wake up?

I know my oldest would love it!  Thanks for the inspiration, Sara!

Rachel, I've been homeschooling and I still leave my daughter notes. I'll use one as a bookmark in her reading book or under her napkin at lunch.

My daughter loves when I go in while she's taking and shower and I write on or draw a silly picture on the steamy mirror.

It takes a bit more creativity but you definitely should do it! I even leave sticky notes in the fridge because when she gets up she'll go pour herself some milk.

You'll have to tell me what you do!

I LOVE the lunch box notes idea. My son likes to eat hot lunch at school - and here in Boulder it's like Jamie Oliver's food revolution has been here - no sugared milk, whole food meals etc. We're lucky. I do pack a snack for him every day and will need to remember this. My mom, sister and I used to leave notes for each other around the house and it was so sweet and fun.

Thanks for the great tip!!

Since we homeschool, I often tuck notes on their dresser or in the fruit bowl, in a crayon box, or just in a random place they frequent.

Makes the day a bit brighter!

I started putting notes in my son's lunch box when he was  learning to read. My favorite way to add a note is to write with food-safe markers on one of the foods I pack in his lunch -- rolls, crackers, etc. (You can see some examples here: http://wendolonia.com/blog/2009/12/05/the-week-in-bentos-november-30-december-4-2009/) He takes his lunch to school, but this might be a good way for homeschooling moms to add a messages to lunches, too.

Wendy,

Food safe markers? I've seen them in prepacked cookies at the holiday but never thought to look for them separate.

Any suggestions where to get them?

I found mine in a cooking supply store, but you can get them at Amazon, too. I use the Foodoodlers brand and like them.

What great ideas!  We also got into the habit of brown-bagging it and I would draw little pictures and write reminder notes on my husband's lunch bag, too!
