Growing up in CT, we always started after Labor Day too.  August 17th seems so early!

We're attempting year-round school this year (we homeschool), but the summer is so insanely busy that it really hasn't been working out.  Most likely we will start back up with "regular schooling" mid-August or so.  

It's so hard to stay motivated to continue to do school in the summer when there are so many other fun things to do, lol!  Maybe we'll try again next year.

Rachel:  I absolutely loved it when my (now older) son went to a year-round school, there wasn't such a huge break, plus with the longer spring break, we could plan short vacations for both.

My twins are starting kinder this year {sobbing just a little}, they don't start back until early September.  I think my older sons high school starts back around the same time.  It's such a long vacation.

Last Monday!

We homeschool year-round here (my son has ADHD and can't take a break or else we tend to have to start over).  Right now we're doing summer "bridging" type things and we'll start with full-out school on August 1.

My little girl starts pre-school in Boulder on Aug. 18th. First time school parent here. We're all so excited for her to start, but I'm a bit nervous, too.

Happy 1st day of school -- gosh, but I still remember all of the mixed emotions -- all 4 of my kids just finished school (we end late here in Jersey) and will start again, after Labor Day -- my oldest graduates high school and my youngest graduates 5th grade, so, I guess the mixed emotions thing never really ends, does it?

Our son goes back to Intermediate school on August 17th as well, just a little bit earlier than the other other school districts in the area. It always feels like school starts the minute summer begins.

We go back to school in August too. My big kids starts 2nd grade on 8/23, my little one starts preschool on 8/22.
