Need new recipes

Started by Kari , author of A Reynolds-Fletcher Merger 3/22/2011 10:06:23 PM

i'm looking to start a recipe for a my (soon-to-be) husband and I. We're looking to live on a budget and we thing one of the best ways is to eat at home and plan out our meals. My sister plans her meals a month at a time-I love that idea the problem is I don't have a lot of recipes and so I'm asking your help. What are some of your family favorites and meal staples?

I have this issue too. I started with looking through the major players: Kraft, Betty Crocker, etc. and finding recipes on their sites, and subscribing to their emails.  That at least gave me a jumping off point.  Then I expanded to food blogs that fit my kind of cooking/eating (quick, easy, healthy, and "from scratch" as much as possible).

I menu plan on Sundays and usually include one or two "staples" such as pizza or spaghetti and meatballs, and then try one or two new recipes that I've found online or in a magazine or cookbook.  And that's sort of how my blog was born.

Good luck!

Amy-great idea.

I enjoy cooking and always try a couple of new recipes each week.  My family loves chicken wings and they are relatively easy to make-with so many different sauces to choose from.  Here's a recipe for Sweet-N-Spicy chicken wings.

In the winter we make lots of soups/stews.  Here's a link for Tuscan Onion Soup.

Check out the Minute Menu Plan.  It is currently still free of charge and there are quite a few good recipes to choose from.

I hope this helps and that you enjoy your new meals.

Have you tried the Saving Dinner website and blog.  She has great ways to save money by eating at home, plus recipes.

On Thursday there is a Live chat on the Hammock Tracks Family Forum - Cooking with the Basics.  The key to making it through a month of cooking is to be able to stock your pantry and fridge with basic foods.  You don't want to be on week three and find that you need a certain canned soup to make a recipe that you just found.  Join us on Thursday and ask for recipe ideas and tips to working out a monthly meal plan.
