Shopping for Kids

Started by Kelly , author of According To Kelly — A Haphazard Diary of Life 9/27/2010 9:33:46 AM

Ok folks. we've talked about our favorite hidden shopping locations. We've discussed vintage shopping. So let's get back to basics...

Where's your favorite place to shop for your kids? Online? (Do you have some secret source for fabulous promo codes that result in tremendous savings?) What about consignment shops or local boutiques? Do you shop ahead, buying clothes for next year at discounted prices?

Thanks Julie,

She is hard to fit, super long in the torso. I've never tried Crazy 8 but Gymboree is one of the companies making stuff that fit her well. I'll hit main place tonight and take advantage of their AC for a few hours too :-)

I am also a huge fan of Old Navy, Crazy 8's, Gymboree, The Gap, and The Children's Place. Their clearance is amazing and I usually end up buying for the following season. The tricky part is guessing what size the children will be the following year!

GREAT theory. I'm with you. Especially with my young kids, clothes are in a constantly getting ruined. I learned a long time ago that unless I just wanted to throw money away, I shouldn't spend too much on what they wear. that doesn't mean they don't look good though. you can get great clothes at a bargain!

As you can see I do not spend a ton of money on their clothes.  I have this theory that no piece of clothing should average out for more then $15 a piece.  Some will be less some will be slightly more, but in the end they all wind up about $15.

I HATE "stuff." Especially when they are babies. Don't tell anyone, but I returned anything I got at a baby shower that had appliques, or words on it.

Splendid is AMAZING. Have you ever gone to one of their warehouse sales? Tons of stuff!

& mini-boden is really cute, but I've had fit & quality issues. Although, @AngryJulie swears mini-Boden resales better if you are into that kind of thing!

I'm a big fan of Old Navy, Crazy 8, Gymboree and Gap. Gymboree and Crazy 8 I mostly like for their girl clothes. I'm not a big fan of stuff of my kids clothes - like a giant anteater on a sweater.

My very, very favorite baby brand in Splendid, but it's pricey, so it's a grandma brand. Fortunately, it's her favorite too.

Another brand I love is mini-Boden. Also pricey. Also a grandma brand.

I love shopping for boys. they are soooo easy. What are some of your favorite online surf/ skate shops?

When it comes to clothes shopping, it varies depending on each kid.  Our 13YO is very into skateboarding and snowboarding so he's into the brand names like DC and Fox, which we usually get online (or on sale at SOL or PAC SUN).  The other boys are super easy. They just want the basics and hate going shopping so we can get their stuff at Target and have been getting more items on Zappos lately as well.

thanks! what a great shopping experience. Can't wait to explore!

I would LOVE to go to a Splendid warehouse sale. Just Googled it and saw your post about the last one. Will you be posting the next one on Just Spotted? Because I will move mountains to be there!

Also like Tea Collection. Their jeans are my favorite boy jeans.

H&M kids is amazing. But I haven't checked out the Zara line. Hmmmm. I wonder if South Coast carries it - you can find pretty much anything there!

My kids are loving H&M kids line and Zara kids section. Both are not available at all of their stores.

i don't know from experience.... but i've heard lands end is good. just throwing it out there. what about online? i would think the biggies (gap, old navy, target) would always have them on line.

I would love to know if any of you know of a place for school uniforms. I snapped up a bunch at the beginning of the school year but I know they will either wear out or she will out grow them before next school years sales start.

my kind of kid....

My son is a Target and Nordie's Rack type of kid.  Target for the basics like jeans and shorts.  Nordies rack for the surf brands at a discounted price.
