Let's Introduce Ourselves!

Started by Tara , author of Banks Blab 8/30/2010 9:11:31 PM

There are lots of new faces around here, and so I thought it would be fun to write a little paragraph about ourselves so we can get to know each other better.

I'm Tara--captain of team 1. Running the Ragnar last year definitely makes the "top 10" list of my life.  It was amazing.  I have a Master's Degree in Health--my undergrad emphasis was nutrition, and my graduate emphasis was exercise.  I also teach group fitness classes here and there and do a little bit of personal training at the Erie Rec Center.

I love to read and hang out with my husband in my "spare time."  I also like to cook--if no tiny children are in the kitchen under my feet.

I'm excited to get to know you all and share in this fun journey!

Hi Tara!

I'm Kirsty, I love to read too. At the moment it's The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde. I have a blog over at Kirsty Girl it's mostly about my life in Australia, having fun and trying to find inspiration for my soon to be home.

I love to write music and play guitar, I also love oil painting and vegan cooking! :D

Hi everyone,

I'm Jessica. I know Tara because our husbands are cousins, but I actually met her before we were both married. We met at BYU Hawaii, and I am proud to say that Tara taught me how to hitchhike, and tresspass. :)

I live in Lehi, Utah. I'm a mother of 2. My little girl turned 5 today, and is starting kindergarten, and my rambunctious little boy is 16 months today! They keep me busy!

My husband and I have been married for 8 years. I love to garden, cook, run, travel, and waterski, among many other things. I have a bachelor's degree in consumer economics, and a master's degree in business. Currently, I am a stay at home mom. I look forward to meeting you all!

Hi Kirsty and Sunny,

Are you runners?  This is a community of runners.  Mostly we are preparing for a big relay race in Southern California next April.  We are using this community to stay in touch with each other and share fitness advice.

Jessica--

I am so happy to have been the one to introduce the valuable skills of hitchhiking and trespassing.  What would you do without me?

We also have a few other BYUH alumni among us--Jamie and Amber.

Jamie--

I am so excited to be apart of the 2011 Ragnar Team.  I have been wanting to run in a Ragnar race for a few years now.  My timing with babies and injuries have prevented this from happening.  I am hoping to get my IT-Band issues fixed so that I can run again.

Fitness has always played a big part of my life.  Once high school sports were over I decided to get into running.  I have to admit that it wasn't love at first run.  But, the more and more I ran, the more I became addicted to the "runners high" and now I just can't stop.  I love running and have missed it this past year due to my injury.

I currently teach Body Combat and Body Step at a couple of the local Rec Centers.  This has been a great way for me to stay in shape and get paid for it too.

I am so excited to start training and getting to know all of you better.

Jamie--where are you teaching right now?  I know that they just hired the new Fitness Coordinator over at Erie, so if you haven't heard anything from them, wait about another week and then give it a try.

Jamie,

Hi. Nice to meet you. What do you do for your IT band? Mine just started killing me today. I have a relay in a week and a half. I'm calling a physical therapist tomorrow, but am really nervous about it for the race. Let me know.

Hello,

I spent most of my adult life as a couch potato. At around 40 years old, I got into biking. First mountain biking, and then road biking.

At 44 years old I started racing in some time trial bike races and added a bit of running into my workout routine.

At 45 years old I bought a triathlon bike and started racing in duathlons (run-bike-run) and now compete in over 20 races per year.

On October 31 I'll be doing the 100 mile Intracoastal Waterway Century bike ride in Cocoa Beach. On November 20 I'll be doing a half Ironman duathlon at Miami Man (1 mile run - 56 mile bike - 13.1 mile run) and on December 5 I'll be doing my first full marathon at Marathon of the Palm Beaches in West Palm Beach.

I'll be 47 years old on November 19 and have lost around 25 pounds since I started racing. It's  never too late to start adding exercise into your life.cheeky

I've heard about the Ragnar Relay and am thinking about doing the one in Florida at some point.

Good luck to everyone currently training for the event!

Take care,
Lynn Smythe

Hi I'm Jen and I guess I am on Team 1 for 2011.  I live in Utah and am a very long time friend of Amy Brasier.  I am so excited to have this goal to work toward.  Our family has had our home on the market for the  past 18 months and it has truly taken a toll on my health.  I now weigh what I did when I gave birth to my 4th child 5 years ago...disgusting.  Stress just ruins me.  I have done several 5K's over the years but I need something bigger to work towards.  Hopefully I will see some added benefits of losing some pounds but right now it's all about getting healthy again.  I am a SAHM mom of 4 lovely kids ranging in age from 15 to 5.  My oldest started High School and my youngest just started kindergarten.  After 15 years, it's ME time!
