That's a great question, but unfortunately I don't think there's a straight-forward answer on this one. I've searched for an answer to this question recently too... I did read a problogger post on this subject (wish I could remember the exact post title for you) and he was saying that less people read during the weekends (making some choose to not put important posts on the weekends) while others choose to post on the weekends for exactly that reason - less "competition" (as in less numbers of posts in someone's reader) to vie for the readers' attention, therefore gaining a higher readership. {Ugh, how was that for a terrible run-on sentence with far to many 'reader'ish words? Did you follow?!} In saying all that though, he did say Monday morning, Tuesday morning, and Thursday afternoons seemed to be good post times. Or something like that. I know... weird huh? So maybe you should hold off on your really good post until Monday morning? (Can you write a short one or do a photo post in between?) Overall, problogger suggests tracking your blog for a while (types of posts in comparison to which days of the week you post them) and seeing what works for your specific audience. I've not gone that far yet... too much detail for me! {blech!} But let me know what you do and then pass the winning formula onto me, ok?! ;)
