can we talk blog rolls?

Started by Queenie , author of thePLANETpink 8/5/2010 8:22:56 PM

I'm trying to decide what to do.  I like the idea of a blog roll because it gives exposure to my friends on my main page.  But I feel like it makes things a little cluttered looking... and then there's the issue of figuring out who gets the honor of being on it...

Do you have a blog roll?  How do you use it and how do you decide who to put on it?  Do you think it's useful?  I know I've gotten a few hits from other people's blogrolls, so I think it can be helpful, but I don't know...

I do have a blogroll & it's my absolutely favorite blogs plus most of the blogs in my "Comment on These" folder in my Google Reader. It's who I would consider my community. BUT I have it on a separate page - not my homepage or in my sidebar. I wanted to do that, but I decided I could put more people & organize it a little better if I did it on a separate page. I would prefer my main page to be as uncluttered as possible.

I'm still new to this, but what I did was put those I gave awards to in my blog roll.  My logic being that if I like the blog enough to give it an award, I like it enough to check back often - hense my blog roll.  So by extension, I'm now also using blog awards for a specific reasons - but so far I'm finding that works.

I also find I tend to mainly use my blog roll when I'm busy - rather than my reader - so I'm up to date on the blogs I enjoy most.

However, it also sometimes delays my posting awards I get until I have enough new blogs I want to add to my roll.  So I can see this getting a bit unmanageable if I keep up the practice - but it's working for now.

I'm with Cameron. I have a separate page for my blogroll. On my personal blog, it's just links. On my "fun" blog, I'm in the process of building it, but I don't put it on the main page.
