Siblings

Started by Sara 9/17/2010 7:32:45 AM

My sister and I are five years apart.  She is five years my senior.  Against all odds, we have had a great relationship.  She's really one of my best friends!  I feel lucky to have that relationship with her because I know it doesn't always go that way, especially with that many years between us.  I am sure there were times that I was annoying to her, being the way younger sister who was trying to be cool with the older kids, but I don't really remember fighting a lot.  I DO remember us sticking together when life got tough, though, and it's nice to be so close to someone who has shared the same life experiences as me...my WHOLE life.

Do you have siblings?  If you're an only child, did you have a friend or relative who felt like a sibling?  What memories do you have of growing up with your sibling/close friend or relative?

I have one brother who is 5 years older than me.  We aren't as close as I would like to be.  However I have a few friends that are like sisters to me and I am happy to call them part of my "family."

I have a brother who is 6 years younger than me & my sister is 11 years younger. These two are my best friends. We may have many years apart from one another but we are super close.

Also as a child because I was an "only child" for so long I had 2 cousins. We are all the same age. Our Mom's are all sisters. We grew up inseparable. To this day we are very close. We may go a year without seeing each other but the minute we are together. We pick up right where we left off. I love it!! That bond is soo strong!

My sister is two years younger than me and I can honestly say that she is my best friend. It wasn't always that way, during the teen years we HATED each other. But now we couldn't be closer...literally. We live in the same apartment complex and she lives directly above me LOL Her daughter is five months younger than my oldest son and they are the best of friends. Our husbands get along great and I consider her DH to be my brother in every way. I'm so glad that we got over whatever it was growing up because I am so happy with our little family!!

I have an older sister who i get on with - a younger brother and a little sister ( on my mums side ) and 2 little sisters on myu dads side

i get on really well with them all except my little litle sister is only 4 so i feel more like an aunty to her cause she plays with my kids and goes to school with them if you get me..me and my brother are close ( id like to think)but since hes in Uni i dont see much of him :(

I have two brothers and two sisters that are between 3 and 10 years younger then me.  We are all pretty close but it's hard to stay in touch with all of them all the time.  We have a relationship that is not the normal sibling relationship.  My parents were separated and my mom was very sick for about 7 years, so I took on more of a parenting role (my youngest sibling was only 11 when she first got sick).  Now that my mom has past away, I find myself worrying about them much more and trying to guide them down the right roads.  Sometimes they don't like what I have to say so we may go a few weeks without talking but my other siblings always fill me in.

My sisters tell me everything, way too much actually!  They love to see how uncomfortable they can make me!  I couldn't imagine life without them.  Having people who can go through life with you is such a blessing!

We are 4 in the house, we are 3 years apart except the little one that is 5 years younger than me.  We do ok, we leave in different states so we don't get to interact too much, and I miss it oh so much.

Siblings... yes, I have NINE of them - I am the ninth of ten children.  Coming from a large family is crazy and fun.  Growing up we never even all lived together at the same time... my oldest brother graduated high school and moved to college right around the time I was born, and I have a younger sister! So it makes it kind of interesting... growing up I didn't know the oldest ones very well.  We all get along great, but obviously some of us are closer or not as close to others because of age differences.  But we are all adults now, and really enjoy getting together when we can.

It's kind of funny because I probably spend the most time with my brother who is child #2... he lives the closest to me (an hour away) and we both got married within two months of one another and both have three kids now that are the same ages.  He was 36 when he got married, and I was 20. So despite the age difference, we are in the same stage of life and have a lot in common, plus our kids have so much fun together.
