Maybe Baby?

Started by Lori 7/5/2010 9:23:14 AM

Hi everyone, Lori here with the start of the July Blog Party!

This month we are all about Babies! We are having a baby shower here and I want to start off the day by asking you all how you found out you were going to have a baby? Did you have it planned, was your baby a surprise, did you get a phone call saying your adoption was finally approved? How did you find out you were going to be a momma?

For me, I had driven halfway across Canada to visit my sister, all by myself. It took me 26 hours straight driving. When I arrived I was really sick but thought it was because of the driving and all the junk I ate on the trip, 2 days of vomiting later I thought it might be something else. I took a test, then another and then another and yes, pink lines all around! Then I had to drive home again, throwing up every few miles... What a trip! But it was well worth it in the end!

Can't wait to hear about your stories!

Oh, Lori, I totally understand the throwing up. Yuck! My least favorite part of being pregnant.

We planned ours, so I wasn't surprised to see the positive pregnancy test ... I was about 8 weeks along and just starting to think I was going to miss the morning sickness stuff when it started in ... and lasted until 24 weeks. Icky!

And for those of you without children, share some of the ways you've found out about someone else being pregnant. I've always had a secret wish for twins, and sharing our news on like mother's day in a card with something like ... your gifts will be here in X months. Something like that.

With my daughter it was just a feeling - hard to describe but it was that that encouraged me to go buy a pregnancy test...it was a very nervous  time for me as we'd had a previous pregnancy that didn't end well at 24 weeks. Once I'd got the positive on the test I nervously went and told my hubby. We were meant to be going out to a bbq that evening and cancelled at the last minute because we had some talking to do :)

With my son it was TOTALLY different!!! My period has never been on the same date each month so I thought nothing of the fact I was about a week out. My hubby joked  that I should go get a pregnancy test.Joked because we'd used protection. Little did he know that I'd promised myself that if my period hadn't turned up in a few days time that was exactly what I was going to do! The days passed and  nothing so I shot down to the chemist with just enough time to get a test and then get my daughter from nursery. When we got home I did the test and low and behold - it was positive!! I couldn't believe my eyes! The shops were close to closing so I ruched to a different chemist with my daughter and got another test. On the way there I phoned my best friend and told her. I remember being terrified and secretly happy hoping the test was right. The second one was positive too & so when hubby was bathing our daughter that night I said'you know you said about getting a pregnancy test?' and he just looked at me so I continued, 'well I did' he said 'and?' there was a heavy pause and I told him we weregoing to have another baby. We were both kind of stunned and it took a while to get used to the idea as this definitely wasn't planned!!

I would've loved to have been creative in telling hubby both times but I just wouldn't have been able to keep the secret lol

Before I had DD, my period was insanely regular. Seriously, you could make a calendar on it, even down to the time of day. DH and I had been using Natural Family Planning as birth control for several months, so I knew my cycle pretty well. We decided to "try" for the first time, and when I didn't get my period the day it was due, I just knew! I took a test that day, and lo and behold, there was that faint pink line! When I told DH, his face went from joy to shock in about 2 seconds.

I got super lucky and never had any morning sickness ::ducks, and hides:: It was an incredible blessing, because for my job I was in a pool or hot tub with kids with disabilities 6 hours a day...couldn't exactly jump out and run to the bathroom. However, starting at about 10 weeks, and lasting until the day she was born, I couldn't brush my teeth for more than 30 seconds without gagging. Then I would have to go lay down on my bed and not move for a bit while the nausea passed. It ended as soon as DD was out, isn't it funny how things like that work?

With all three of mine I just knew.  No real reason, just knew that something was different.  Each time I was only about 4 weeks along when I got that feeling.

With my first son, my husband tore the birth control patch off my arm just a couple months after we were married, so when I missed my period I wasn't too shocked!! I took the test on Sunday morning, Mother's Day, and it was positive! I whipped up a digital card and printed it out to give to our moms (first-time grandparents on both sides) - it was a very memorable Mother's Day!

I'm pregnant now due August 20 with our second little boy, and he was mostly planned too - we basically decided to stop actively preventing anything! I got pregnant on my second cycle off birth control this time, in November, and only told my mom (because i couldn't just keep it to myself!). We planned a special way of telling all the family at Christmas. I designed a t-shirt for my son (11 months old at Christmas) to wear announcing, in movie-poster style, "Big Brother: Coming Soon" with the details on the back. He opened it as his first Christmas present - about 4 different times at different family celebrations! It was so fun to see the surprise and excitement on our family's faces! :)

Heather - I had the teethbrushing thing too!! What made me laugh though was that I had a dentist check-up and he said I'd been looking after my teeth really well lol!!

Michelle - that's an awesome that you put thought into how to tell everyone! I wish I'd done something like that!

i found out 3 days before my 21st birthday!  we were also planning on heading to Las Vegas a few days after since it was Spring Break in our area.  we contemplated cancelling but didn't & ended up having a great time...except whenever i think of Vegas, the smells still make me sick LOL!

I love chatting about this because everyone is so different! I had taken a test and it was negative and so I thought that I wasn't pregnant. I waited and waited and waited and then finally decided to take another one. The lines showed up in like 45 seconds! We had planned it so it was not a shock but it was kind of a scary moment?  Did anyone else feel kind of scared/nervous/excited/nauseous?? (

With my son, we got pregnant after 9 months of trying so he was definitely planned.  I had a stock of pregnancy tests.  Every one before the positive, I just knew it wasn't it.  But the day I found out I was expecting, I had a feeling and it turned out right!

As for my daughter, we had just decided maybe it was time to start trying for the 2nd child.  I was expecting another round of trying for months since it was obvious I couldn't get pregnant easily.  I was not on b/c or using any other protection.  It had been 2 years of that and no pregnancy so we figured we would always need a push.  But with my daughter, once we decided and BOOM, the next month I was pregnant.  It was exciting and overwhelming all at once because it happen so fast!  That pregnancy was hard on me.  My blood pressure kept creeping up, I was having headaches.  I was always aching, hurting or having leg cramps.  I just wasn't comfortable.  I had bad morning sickness for almost half the pregnancy.
