I'd actually like to learn more about this, myself.

When I was starting out I would regularly ping it - and had some plugin installed to help.  Honestly, I haven't pinged my site intentionally for at least 6 months, probably closer to a year though :)

Okay- now I'm freaked out. I just tried Pingler as suggested above by Katrina. But all the pings came back..

It's working fine....fill in all the blanks and choose a category, make sure your form filler does not erase the list of places that it's going to ping 4 u, hope that helps

Ping? Is that related to Pong?

Pinging your website is the online equivalent of waving a flag and yelling, “Hey! Over here – check this out!” to search engines and directories whenever you add or make major updates to the content on your site. Using a Ping tool can speed up indexing because it essentially sends search portals and other services a message from your website telling them that there is new content and to come crawl it.
