I think most people do what they feel most comfortable with. While I was a public school teacher for several years before becoming a full-time "mom", I homeschooled for many years before that. My hubby and I were both homeschooled and loved our experience, so we are planning on doing the same with our kids... and are kinda homeschooling /unschooling our oldest.

People are always asking me so I finally just hashed it out.  I actually worked on it off and on for months before I was happy enough to post it.  I'm sure it will change.  I really think people need to continually evaluate, because people and circumstances change.

Why I Homeschool

I am firmly in the homeschooling camp.  There are so many reasons, I would have to write a book.  From quality of education to environment in the schools to our personal beliefs.  My reasons would never end!  It is challenging, but we are committed to this lifestyle.  I would recommend reading The Harsh Truth about Public Schools if you are interested in reasons to homeschool.

Why I Homeschool

I have my feet in two camps - we partially home-school with the help of a private classical education school.

It is weird, but works for us.

The boys go to school 2 days a week, we homeschool two days a week and they do electives one day.

I don't think I could do it full time so it really is good for us.  The boys don't know any different - the thought of 5 day a week school astounds them.

I think you have to do what works for your family.  My daughter is now in the 10th grade.  She has always attended public school.  I have always made it my business to know the teachers and principals.  I don't expect the school to do it all, but I am fortunate enough to have a great school district.

I went to a private preschool and elementary school, a public middle school and high school, and a private university. I loved them all but prefer private.

My husband isn't a fan of private schools but he doesn't really know a lot about them.

We have a while before we have to have that talk but it'll be a doosey!

props to those who homeschool ... I dont' think I would have the patience to do that

I like what some charter schools have to offer, but my husband is very pro-public school... I think it's because he doesn't know anything else and he is horrible with change and broadening his horizons

my oldest graduated from public school a couple years ago and was in public school the entire time

my youngest two are also in public school (Pre-K and K) ... I'm glad we are in a very good school district

@Holly - I love the idea of a half school!

@Glowing and Leslie (and other public schoolers... I know that going to a small school would be my preferred second choice if I couldn't homeschool the kiddos
