Why I blog

Started by Texasholly , author of june cleaver nirvana 12/2/2010 8:24:40 AM

*mushy alert*

Lately, I have really been trying to concentrate on writing what I want to write on my blog (or where I guest post) and it comes down to this...

recording what is happening now.

I already love looking back and reading the funny stories about my boys (yes, it is OK to admit that) and I think it will be all the more fun in 10 years.

For example, I am over at Mom It Forward today talking about our family tradition of skiing and what that looks like with a four year old:

I could say I blog in order to get the father's voice out there on an Internet saturated by wonderful mommy blogs. And partly that is true. I'm proud of my recent posts like 6 Ways to be a Better Dad (aka: Stop and Smell the Diapers) and the related blog Dads Just Want to Have Fun.

But then I also post silly ones like I Hate Dora the Explorer and Daddy Needs New Wheels, so it's not all serious. I like what you said about looking back on family events and such. It's a good journal... a sort of time capsule. Here's one like that A Daddy's Birthday Gift.

Hope everyone's having a great week so far!

p.s. Welcome to the Mom Loop team, Holly.

I love it!  What a special treat for your daughter as well...well, maybe not the Dora one.

I blog for similar reasons, to record family history with posts like Fun Fridays should definitely involve food on your face, or, A Love Letter to My Son as He becomes a Man, but also to share ideas and information with others and to build a community with posts like How to Create a Homeschooling Plan in Three Easy Steps, and 7 Things to Do on a Romantic Getaway with Your Husband.

Mixing the two is sometimes difficult and I wonder if I should go one way or the other, but it comes down to the fact that I write about what is on my mind or what intersests me at the moment

Writing keeps my mind calm and provides a creative outlet.  If I can meet others through the process, that makes it even better.

Glad to meet you!

I totally agree with both the creative outlet and the ability to meet other people as a bonus!

I started out my blog initially as a way to keep myself accountable to losing weight. But now it's morphed into what's happening in my life and recording the adventures of Hashimoto's and trying to learn to be "neat" housekeeper. (I'm a messy. My husband is not.)

Hopefully soon little people too.

Oh, this is a fun topic! :)

My blog initially started out as a place for recipes, specifically for people who are in relationships like mine where their diets are different and how they can make it work. Since my husband and I are so different, it went from recipes to religion to... well, pretty much anything at this point. I try to stick to those (with my Meatless Monday and Theological Thursday posts), but I sometimes get off track.

Which is okay. :) I have a personal journal on LJ that I use for things that I don't want in public, and anything else goes to The Coexist Cafe. I find it to be a good way to communicate with family and friends who may not see us that often, especially those who live out of state.

I also love writing, what can I say!

I started blogging to share and keep ideas organized but now it has turned into a hobby, well a small obsession. =)

In my real life, I don't get to talk much blog...

I started blogging when I was invited to blog for HomeGoods Openhouse Blog. Then I attended a speaker's conference and was told that speakers need to write, so I started CMB. Now writing is my favorite past time. Who knew? smiley
