What do your hubby's think about blogging?

Started by Quirky Momma , author of quirkymomma.com 6/25/2010 8:29:49 AM

Shannon in part inspired this discussion... she asked how I learned all my blogging tech stuff (especially when I haven't been blogging for long) and I am pretty much married to it... My hubby is a coder who when I mentioned wanting to have a scrapbook of activities he said, we'll make one online.  The next day I had a domain that he had set wordpress up on.  Then he handed me a stack of PHP and CSS books.  For a few months we had fun reading code together (well, he'd ask me what I wanted to change and then show me where I could find the info - infuriating!  But also good for me).

Its funny, I'm only blogging part-time right now, 3 times a week instead of 5+, Hubs is actually glad that I am not working at it and that I am downgrading the number of reviews (read moolah) I'm doing/getting.  I think he'd prefer that I be a hobby blogger.

What do your spouses think about blogging?  Were they and are they still supportive?  or do they not really "get it"?

@shannon, that is SO sweet! What a great story! I'm thinking that I should point out to my hubby that it keeps me from huffing and puffing and saying "come on let's spend time together" when he is checking his work email or something. Now I'll be the one saying, "one more second". =)

My husband fully supports me in my blogging hobby! I am so glad he doesn't make fun of it. I think since I have accepted his computer/video games, he doesn't complain about what I do. He even said he wants to do a guest post sometime soon!

My husband blogs, too. Often we sit next to one another on the couch and blog at the same time. 21st century bonding!

Mine thinks I spend too much time on the computer. period. Which I do. He really wants me to learn to focus on one thing, whether it be blogging, graphic design or whatever. He thinks if I was more focused I would be more successful.

Lew is totally supportive..i catch him every now and then reading it...it is definitely a great outlet for me and great memories we are keeping for Will

My husband is very supportive of my blogging because he sees it as a creative outlet.

Partially, I think he just loves that for the first time in my life I'm now interested in computers- he's definitely a tech-guy.  His one request is that his pictures don't figure into my posts more than once every blue moon.

I also have to be careful and not blog about any of the hilarious things that happened to him in his business that might upset one of his clients to read about online:)

Its so interesting that so many of our hubby's are IT/Tech people.  I wonder if they might be part of the reason we blog :)

@ Susan - I totally understand the need to watch what we say!  My hubby's co-workers and bosses friended me on facebook... I need to be careful not to gripe about his hours or pretty much anything that could reflect poorly on him.

My hubby is starting to blog about his online business. I think its great. Plus I am involved with it as well.  He has brought a lot of business his way by blogging.

My husband doesn't really understand what a blog is so he doesn't mind me blogging. I blog, he plays video games. Evens out!
