While I do always have it on hand, I hardly ever use it, I've found that my family and I get sick less often if we are always exposed to small amounts of stuff from the usual everyday living and nature germs don't bother me at all.

Purell can create stronger bugs also but you need to know your kids and family, if your kid has always come down with every little thing that comes along and it helps to stem the tide of sickness then I'm all for it.

My mom has started using it all the time and now gets sick more often then ever before.

I used to have it with me at all times till a girl  in our area accidentally ingested some antibacterial gel and I can't remember if she died or not, but she was in a coma from the alcohol poisoning.  I can easily see my kids ingesting something that smells good without thinking about it, and I know how quickly they can get into stuff - so I chucked them!  Its funny, we've actually been healthier this year than last (when I used the antibacterial gels).  I bet its just a fluke... but we don't seem harmed by going without it that's for sure!

Yes!  But I never was until the swine flu.  I was pregnant and completely freaked out that I would get it from a shopping cart somewhere!

I think Purell smells awful. :)  But I don't buy the kind that is mixed with scents or aloe or anything, so maybe that's why.

I use it quite often, and it has kept us well.  Particularly when I pick Kate up from preschool, but before I hand her her water cup, and once we leave places like Target and the kids have been touching stuff inside, and the carts.

I only use it if someone in the family has been sick, or if we've been shopping. I'll wipe down the handle of a cart and then just make sure we wash really well when we get home.

When my husband picked up the stomach flu from going over to help out his ex wife, I purelled EVERYTHING since Gunne was only 6 months old and I didn't want him to get it.

No way! It kills the good and the bad germs and doesn't give your system a chance to build up immunity to anything.

My aunt has a master's degree in nursing and worked in surgery for many years. She will NOT use that stuff or antibacterial soap (she did when she was at work for obvious reasons, but never at home or on her children).

I carry Bath & Body Works sanitizer in my purse, just in case.  I'm not fanatical about it though.

I do carry it and the wipes version made by someone else...but I rarely use them. During cold and flu season I will wipe down carts or if we are, say, at the zoo and I can't wash them with soap and water, I will sometimes use the gel. But,  we usually use those hand and face wipes by Huggies. Those things are the best!

Our ped warned us about the risks of kids ingesting  the anti-bac. so it is only in my purse where they can't get to it.

There is a brand called Clean Hands that is alcohol free and made for kids. There are wipes and a foam. I use that and also the small ones from Bath and Body Works. We still get sick though. =(
