Want to know an unknown fact about me? Plus- Giveaway!

Would you like to know a "little known" fact about me?

Before I was a stay at home mom - I was climbing the corporate ladder in NYC. I worked on several television shows, and even worked at the now famed "30 Rock" Building.

Because I worked across the hall from the Saturday Night Live Studios, on Thursday & Fridays I could walk out of our office into the hallway, and watch whatever band was the musical guest that week doing their sound checks! I could also watch the SNL cast practicing skits during the week. I have some great memories of watching all the cast members but especially the women kick some serious comedy booty! I was really lucky to work in a building full of women that worked in all aspects of television, and that was super exciting to me as a young woman!

In honor of little known facts- Go Daddy is giving away a 3 year unlimited 4GH Hosting from Go Daddy!

Want to know an "unknown fact" about Go Daddy? Did you know that Go Daddy actively employs and promotes corporate woman? The Chief human Resource officer, VP of PR and VP of marketing are all women, as are several high ranking individuals in the legal department. Pretty cool, heh?

There's a lot you don't know about Go Daddy! Including all the tools they have for bloggers! Check out www.godaddy.com and learn more!

Kathy! That is fabulous! I can totally relate to that feeling of a dream coming true from your childhood. What an awesome stroke of luck and timing that you found your way to that job. I bet your soap knowledge was a great help to them - since you were a true fan!

Awesome! Thanks so much for sharing that! Love it!!

Growing up, my dream was to work in the soap opera industry. When I was 8-years-old, and in the grocery store checkout line, I used to ask mom if she could buy Soap Opera Digest for me. This was my preferred "book" to read on the 3-hour drive it took to travel to our grandparents' house in Peoria, IL. As I got older, I still watched soaps (throughout high school and in college); most of the shows had such ridiculous, fictional story lines - I think that's why I enjoyed it so much because it was a true escape from reality...honestly, who would believe you had an evil twin lurking around somewhere out there and out of all the cities in the world they show up in yours. Oh, and then plot to kidnap you and take over your life. Yes, your husband never realized for the first few months it wasn't you he was sleeping with...but an impostor! That's daytime drama for you. You either love it or hate - and I LOVED it. So much so that I moved to New York on a whim after graduating college with a degree in public relations. Somehow I was lucky enough to land a job at Soap Opera Digest as an assistant photo editor, with no photo editing experience whatsoever. But what I did have experience in was soap opera "knowledge" - I was familiar with the plots - current and past - and knew practically all the characters/actors/actresses on EACH show. It was my dream come true and a career opportunity I wouldn't change for the world. Today it's a little sad to think soaps are almost dead; there are only four daytime dramas left on the air...though, I knew even in 2001 that it was a dying industry. I just didn't think it would be this soon. Still, I'll always have the memories of watching soaps with my mom and grandma as a kid. And working at the magazine I grew up reading as a child. That's one story line out of the "book" of my life I'll always cherish.

That is too cool Jim!

I have been hemming and hawing over buying my dad a beer brewing starter kit for the last few Christmas seasons! I think he would really love it! Is it very difficult to learn at first?

I work in a public library -- this is the face most folks around here see. At home, I am a Dad, a gardener, a landscaper, and a mechanic. What most folks don't know about me is that I brew my own beer!

I'm actually doing a program this year at several libraries in Kentucky about how to get started in home brewing, so I expect there will be a few more folks joining the hobby!

Shannon, what a cool job and experience!

One of these is true:

  • Was I once was surrounded by more than 10 reef sharks while SCUBA diving in Palau, Micronesia.

~ OR ~

  • Did I once play guitar in a basement bar named the Rathskeller in NY, and was paid in free beer?

Can you guess which?
