Any ideas for keeping kids busy on an airplane?

What do you do when all the books, sticker books and food has been gone through?

We took our iPad, playdough in a 3 oz. container, and straws to build with.

I always had "secret" toys stashed away and waited until they were REALLY bored, then I'd get them out. We got our kids things like small electronic games, fancy markers and activity books, small toys they could put together or "dress up," or Legos. Just make sure if you bring toys with small parts you have some kind of a tray that will hold the pieces as they play (Iike a plastic storage box lid or something along that line). I like the Play Doh idea!

We would stock up on little items before a long trip whether car or plane and put them all in  my Mommy Surprise Bag. As the trip got underway the Mommy Surprise Bag came out at just the right time to curtail boredom, etc.

We take videos and video games.  For us, it is the only surefire way to have complete silence for the other passengers pleasure!

DD got a DS for Christmas and I am already anticipating easier flying when we let her play it on a plane in future:)

Portable DVD player, colour books, and lots of snacks :)

I flew to Turkey with my daughter at 15 months—that's an eleven hour flight! This is what I did:

1) Buy a couple of new toys or books that he/she has never seen and then bring them out when he/she starts to get bored.
2) Give a bottle at take-off and landing to help with the ear pressure.
3) Snacks
4) Depending on the time of the flight, maybe hold off on giving a nap until on the plane.
5) Don't worry if you have to walk up and down the aisles if it means your child won't cry. People care less about a walking child than they do about a crying child.
6) Don't worry about the people on the plane. There is enough stress with them adding to it.
7) Stay calm and relaxed, even happy. Children definitely sense our stress and will feed off of it. Tell yourself it is going to a pleasant flight, and try to believe it. Trust me—this is seriously important.

I hope this helps!

For the short hops (of which we do one every 6 weeks) I pick out a few new Sesame Streets and he can watch one on the way down. BUT, for anytime below 10,000 feet when you can't have anything on and he is PEEVED... I have index cards and a cute crayon holder, as well as LOTS OF SNACKS. The Ellla's Kitchen are the BEST!
