Treadmill vs. Outside

Started by Chelsea , author of Chelsea's Psycho Babble 6/9/2010 12:26:54 PM

So basically I run on a treadmill pretty decently.  However, I step outside for a run and I feel like I'm an 800 pound asthmatic.  Even though it's more scenic to run outside, I absolutely dread it.

Do you prefer running on a treadmill or outside?

Running outside is definitely more challenging on my body BUT I like the change in scenery and what not.  It's such a hard call.  I think it goes back and forth for me.  I can't run as far outside, so that's a downer, plus my knees start to hurt... 800lbs. asthmatic about sums it up for me too :P.  If I had to pick, I'd say treadmill.

I like running outside better, because I get bored with no change of scenery, but it takes a heck of a lot more motivation to run outside instead of on the treadmill...

plus somehow our treadmill broke and my dad tried to fix it, so now it's a full out sprint on number 4 haha

I guess I started out this whole jogging thing the right way.  I've only jogged outside.

There is no way I could jog on a treadmill...I'm about as coordinated as a punch-drunk polar bear on roller skates.

I like running outside better.  I get bored too easily when I'm running on the treadmill.  Also, running outside makes me run farther because I always have to run back to where I started instead of just pressing the off button. haha!

Colleen:  I would not make it if my treadmill was on one speed.  I would seriously hurt myself!

Julia:  I am rather uncoordinated myself and I constantly worry I will slip on the treadmill.  I think it would hurt really bad to fall and go flying on one of those things.

Laura:  It's true, you have to run back and that's motivation. Plus, the thought of people seeing me and/or passing me makes me go a little harder.  I don't want to look like a complete baffoon.

The only reason I don't get bored on the treadmill is because of the movie room.  One of the many perks of a movie room.  Thank you, Gold's Gym.

Laura: I'm pretty sure I just end up walking back to wherever I started when I run outside.  I'm a wimp.

Outside only for me.  I like the fresh air and the scenery.  I also don't use an ipod when I run.  Weird - I know.  But I just prefer running outside.  It clears my head.  I get too bored on the treadmill.

I love to jog or walk outside.  I enjoy taking my best friend Deuteronomy (Newfindland dog) with me.  He gets fustrated when I jog on the tread mill.  I do like using the tread mill when the weather is stormy.  I like to read my devotions or a good book.  I also find this time is a good chance to clear my mind and talk with Papa (God).

Outside is definiately my favorite even if it is harder to achieve.

Chelsea:  I plan my gym/treadmill visits for times when my favorite shows are on so that I'll keep going for a whole hour.  It makes it so much easier.  I need a movie room with a treadmill at my house ASAP.

Sarah:  I really need music when I run.  I am impressed that you can go without it.  Every once in awhile I will but for the most part I need those beats to keep me going.

Christina:  I love walking with our dogs!  They can't really run though. I think it would give me added inspiration.  The treadmill is HUGE in bad weather.

Outside all the way!  However, the heat index was 108 here today so maybe I will rethink that. But running outside does seem to go by faster and changing your route always makes for a nice change of pace.
