Cloth Diaper brand suggestions?

Started by Ashley 8/5/2010 5:27:54 PM

Hi everyone! I'm new to cloth diapers and would love your help!

I have a 19-month old boy, 30 pounds, and tall for his age (so just a little on the chunky side). I currently have only 2 gdiapers, and 1 Little Smudgeez AIO. His is a major heavy wetter---he LOVES his water! After having just one AIO, I have decided I don't like that idea. It takes FOREVER to dry with all the layers sewn together like that, and he soaks right through anyway.....maybe I need an AI2 or something? I was thinking a Thirsties Duo Diaper size 2. BTW, it probably can't be a one-size diaper because of his size. Also, I'm confused as to what the difference between boosters, inserts etc are?

So, SBT community, what's your take? A few suggestions please? Thanks so much!

My favorite is fuzzibunz one size.  My little girl is 17 months, off the chart for height and 23 pounds but has chunkers for legs.  They work really well for us!  I also like the  g diapers because they are so trim and absorb a lot.  (If you don't change them enough, the outside will feel damp)  I also like Happy Heinys.

I would stay away from rumparoos.  I like them for absorbancy but the rise is really small.  We won't be able to use them much longer.

I have some Indian prefolds and covers we use, with her skin I have to be right on it when she goes or she will get a rash, so I don't use them much.

I'll second the above comment by Stacy, RumpaRooz do have a smaller size rise (great for newborn and smaller babies but not sure about larger ones). I have a heavy wetter too. But my guy is only 4.5 months old and is 15 pounds. The Bumgenius one size seems to work well with 2 inserts. The fuzzibunz one-size is very customizable to fit.

For clarity on lingo, The Cloth Diaper Whisperer blog actually did an article on it yesterday... http://www.theclothdiaperwhisperer.com/2010/08/cloth-diaper-insert-lingo.html Hope that helps. I know how confusing it can be.

My daughter is 28-30 pounds, 22 months, and has slightly chunky thighs though they are thinning out as she gets older.

I would suggest the Flip or Thirsties size 2 covers.  They both give us more room than the BG and GroVia one size diapers we have.  The flips are the trimmest covers we have.
