accents

I LOVE accents.  They are so unique and sooo fun!!  One of the best things about going to school in Kentucky is the accents.  Unfortunately I have a not so pretty northern accent where my "o's" sound like "a's"

so, Mom= Mam; Pop=Pap; God=Gad; etc.

What kind of an accent do you have?? And what accent would you love to have?

I was laughing because I was talking to someone overseas the other day for business and they told me they were having a hard time with my accent! I grew up in Arizona, lived in California, and now live in Alaska. I would say I have a pretty typical "west-coast" accent, which to me is no accent at all!

I love a good Southern accent though, and really swoon for an Australian accent (obviously!)

Pretty much just about any accent does it for me. I am always so fascinated by the foreign quality there!

I have a very pronounced Minnesotan accent, which is heavily influenced by German and Norwegian.

Yeah is usually "yah" (short "a")  "yah know" is commonly added to phrases.

And...it's pop.  (LOL had to bring this one up again.)

I have a very pronounced New York accent. When I visited a friend in New Hampshire, he actually made me record his answering machine message because he thought it was hysterical.

I can control it to a point, when I'm trying to sound well-educated, but if I'm angry or excited it comes right back.

I am from Texas, but we are from a small town with extremely German roots.  For some reason, this means I don't have the typical Texas accent.  No twang, but I do say fixin' and y'all sometimes.

I would love to have an Australian accent sometimes...it sounds so hot.  Or maybe I would just like for my husband to have one from time to time....

Can I ask a follow up question here?

Do you think tv shows/movies adequately represent your accent?

We do not sound like they talk in "Fargo."  That was totally exaggerated.

I hope that NY accents in tv shows/movies are greatly exaggerated. I don't want to sound like THAT!

Now who wants a cup of cawfee? ;)

Whenever my friends say I have an accent I always joke and say that I don't because every person on tv sounds just like I do.

I have a south Texas accent. One of the cool things about Texas (and probably other places too) is the different accents all in the same state. Panhandle Texas accent is totally different from East Texas accent and totally different from south Texas accent.

I definitely have a southern drawl and a little Texas twang. It's more pronounced at times and I try hard to control it at other times. I totally say "y'all, all y'all, fixin' and drop the g on most words". I call it all Coke. Even if it's Sprite, it's Coke.

I think tv and movies accurately portray the TX accent. It differs so much from different areas of the state that they are depicting one somewhere in TX.

I've always wanted to have a Jersey accent. And be in the mob. Shhhhhh.

That's a great way to look at it Laura! Everyone on TV does have my accent!

I'm in the clear!
