One of my friends posted this on facebook earlier today:

Being in California, soda is, well, soda!  Do you really call it pop or coke in other parts of the US?  What's it called in other countries?

In Florida where I grew up it was always soda. When I went to Covenant College where the students don't only come from all over the States, but all over the world, I heard a LOT of different names!

Now, when you get off that mountain where the college is you're in THE South. (Yep. Capital THE. Capital S.) And there everyone calls it "Coke." It might really be Pepsi, but it's still Coke.

We all it all Soft drink.  Coke is only Coca-Cola.  Soda, to me means soda water.

But yeah, soft drink.

Trinidad and Tobago- soft drink or sweet-drink

and Coca-cola is Coke

Soda means soda water as Millie said previously.

But I have come to understand what people would call a soda over time smiley

To me it's soft drink ^^

Florida here, we say soda.

I was born in Michigan (raised in Florida), when I was little and we visited family and would hear "pop" I would crack up laughing every time!  It sounds so funny to me, HA!

This makes me CRAZY because I LOVE Diet Coke but HATE HATE HATE Diet Pepsi and when I ask if someone has diet coke some will say yes and bring me diet pepsi and blech. It tastes like dirt.

I am so glad I live in an area where they still warn you if it is Pepsi...

We say soda, "coke" (I notice my kids use coke as a general term) or the actual name of the drink  (ie: I need a Dr Pepper.)

I am a Dr Pepper girl...and for years in central Texas (especially in Stepheville, and the Dublin area) they served Dublin Dr Pepper instead of the nationwide formula.  It is made with cane sugar, and while it is "good" as its own separate drink, I am used to regular Dr Pepper.

Once when I was a teenager in Stephenville at a restaurant, I tried to send a Dr Pepper back because I thought the syrup/water ratio was messed up and she schooled me that they only served Dublin Dr Pepper and that was how it was supposed to taste.

Well geez, bring me a Coca Cola then lady because this is terrible ;-)

Up until about 2 years ago I was ADDICTED to DP.

I mean, I drank A LOT.

Now, I can't at all. In Orlando it was really hard to find diet caffeine free so I just switched to Diet Coke.

Now, DP is so sickeningly sweet that it makes me super sick to my stomach if I even attempt it. Blech.

But for a good 20 years there was nothing I loved more than ice cold fresh dr pepper. :)

I've always wanted to go to the Dr. Pepper museum in Waco.

And don't they sell Dublin DP at Chicken Express? (Or at least when they were still making it....)

(I miss chicken express).

But when we moved to New York, no one knew what we were talking about.  So now I have to say soda or sound like a complete idiot.
