Diaper Rash

Started by Anna , author of Loving Life as a Mama & Wife 2/3/2012 5:13:40 PM

Sarah has a pretty bad diaper rash and I am wondering what remedies you mamas have up your sleeves?

My other two didn't really get them but Sarah seems more likely to get rashes in general.

I haven't changed her diaper brand and I change her frequently and use A&D ointment on her. I've also tried the butt paste one.

I read about giving her a lukewarm corn starch bath. Anyone ever do this?

Thanks!

I usually slather Desitin on thick them put powder all over that. When Ellie was little she had one I just couldn't get rid of and brought it up at a well check and it ended up being yeast. She told me to get an OTC yeast cream and it was gone almost overnight. Good Luck.

Thanks. THe one time I did Desitin on her she ended up with a rash that bled. The doctor said it was a reaction to the cream. ICK! So we've done A&D mostly.

I'm scared to try anything as she has such sensitive skin!

Yep sometimes yeast rashes are the WORST. Sometimes you can tell by looking at the back of her tongue...if it is white, not like from milk/formula, it could be thrush which comes out of the body in the urine and causes a yeast rash.

I think it was vitamin E too that helps with them too....just get the liquid ones and squeeze it on the baby bits :)

Ellie is the same way even now at 6 I can't let her just use fun lotion or chapstick she breaks out. She rubbed a cheap lotion on her belly and had a big red circle from where she rubbed it in.

Another option would be to get a powdered probiotic and add a little water and make a paste and put it on her, or just add a small amount to her bottle.

If you have it, breast milk does wonders for a diaper rash.

Jude rarely got them. One time he got one and nothing else was working and we tried lanolin. It worked! I can't imagine buying it just for diaper rash since it's $10 a tube, but we had it on hand because I was nursing.

The one and only diaper rash that we had with my daughter that bleed turned out to be a yeast infection and not a diaper rash at all.  Have you tried an oatmeal bath?  I would place dried oatmeal in a sock and tie it off.  Place it in a warm bath and them squeeze it to make the bath.  I would just let her sit in it and play for a while.  It really helps.

If it not getting any better with creams, think yeast/thrush.  Ryan got one at about a year old, and the only thing that cured it was nystatin.

Thanks everyone!  For tonight since it was getting close to Sarah's bed time and I'm alone/not going to run to the store tonight I allowed her to crawl around and play naked for a bit after bath and layered on the A&D nicely before putting her in her night time diaper.

Tomorrow I'll head to the store and get some oatmeal.

Mae, she does eat yogurt and had one today...would that help too?

If it doesn't clear up at all by Monday I'll call her pediatrician in case its yeast/thrush.  But there is nothing white on the back of her tongue/throat area.

B got his first after a visit with my inlaws.

I thought my MIL was JOKING when she said she only changed diapers when they're poopy. OMG. Not kidding at all.

His little butt was bleeding but it cleared up within a few days.

I always have good luck with the Butt Paste brand.  if you notice little raised spots, however, it could be yeast.
