I think SGK is the real loser in this. Since it was announced,
PP has pretty much made up all of the money in donations that SGK
would have given them whereas I have seen a lot of people posting
on Facebook that they are done giving money or support to SGK. In
addition to that, I have seen a lot of chatter about the other
shady things that SGK does such as their high administrative costs,
and suing other organizations for using "the cure."
I think it is a shame that SGK has chosen politics over women's
health. The invention of the little bylaw they are claiming
prevents them from funding Planned Parenthood coincided with
the hiring of Karen Handel, a woman who ran for governor of Georgia
who campaigned on defunding Planned Parenthood.
Planned Parenthood does a lot of good. They do breast cancer
screenings, give free pap smears and birth control to those that
cannot afford it (oh and birth control prevents abortion), they do
prenatal care and have sponsored healthy baby initiatives. They may
provide abortion services, but it is 3% of their total work and you
know who else provides abortions--many many other clinics and
ob/gyns.
