Scary Mommy Moments

Started by Lolli , author of Better in Bulk 8/11/2009 12:21:43 PM
This discussion was prompted by today's blog post, "This is the Award My Kids Would Give Me" and my friend, Jill, the original Scary Mommy.

I know we all have them. Scary Mommy moments. So please share. When do your kids consider you the scary mommy? What elicits a scary response from you?

Me?

I am never scarier than the days that I have not gotten enough sleep, I've got a list of things that I need to do, and a list of things that I need MY KIDS to do. I do my things, and I expect them to do theirs. Simple, right? When they don't, and I find them lounging around in the family room or playing a game in the messy basement....that's when scary mommy appears.

And other times, too.

Let's be scary together.

I am really scarry when I am LATE FOR SOMETHING.  Actually, I am evil.  If you put the "not enough sleep" or "hasn't run in a week" factor into it... my kids and my husband run for cover.

I am scary when we are late for stuff or when my kids loose things they have just had in their hands.  For example we will be walking out the door, late of course, and my kids will have lost what they just had to go on the trip with.  Or better yet they forget what is was they were supposed to bring and I don't notice until it is WAY to late to go back home.  I loose it bad when that happens although I have made a conscious effort to calm down.  REALLY is it worth it to get so worked up over something I won't even remember in a few days?  I am still crazy town sometimes though!

I have a love hate relationship with bedtime.  I love snuggling them and reading stories, but hate that I am so tired and ready to be alone.

The worst is after we say prayers and it's time to actually get in bed.  Then comes every excuse in the book (I need a drink, I need this, I need that).  Ugh.

Oh, I know about the post-tuck-in excuses. My oldest daughter used to quietly come down the stairs, and say, "Mommy, I have 3 questions for you." And then she'd take all day to ask them. She was just stalling....

I am a scary mommy when my daughter decides not to listen when I ask her to get dressed or pick up her toys.

With Brandie here.  When my son forgets something or loses something that was just in his hands.  Or when he loses yet another glove on the playground during recess.  Instead of setting the glove on the ground, how about you try using your pockets!

I am scary when my "cycle" comes to town.  No joke.

"Scary Mommy" in this house has evolved over the years. We're past the stuff that used to drive me crazy (bedtime is pretty easy now, and there are no more diapers or potty training).

So now it's stuff like, "You have to stay up HOW late to finish that assignment?" "Why didn't your teacher tell us last WEEK that you needed X?" "When I said do your chores/piano/homework, I meant NOW."

Scary Mommy comes out most often when I'm sleep deprived and having a migraine!
