To All the Bloggy Veterans

Started by liz , author of a belle, a bean & a chicago dog 3/15/2010 1:40:24 PM

I'm curious how long some of you bloggy veterans have been doing this.  And how have things progressed for you - slow and steady, or a big burst and then a leveling off?  What are things you've found that have worked for you, and what hasn't?

Thanks for your insights!

Liz

I have been blogging since October 2007. The first year was very slow, and I simply blogged for family and friends. Then after a year I started getting a few non-family readers and started networking and getting on forums and twitter, etc. It grew relatively fast but then leveled off last Spring. I think the more active I am in a variety of online forums and things, the more traffic I get. Comments on other blogs are always a good way to drive people to your site as well. And good, fresh content is always a plus. :)

Ditto.  I've been blogging since July of 2007 and my story pretty much mirrors that of Lolli.  I find that the more time I put into it, the more traffic I get.  In October/November of '09 I saw a huge jump in my traffic but I also put a huge amount of effort into it.  You have to find your balance and "zone" that suites you and your family.  For me, I have come to a point where I know I need to lay off a bit because I still have a real life to live!  I also think it goes in spurts.  Just keep keeping on...

Thanks, ladies, for your input.  That all makes a lot of sense.

I started in March of 2008 so I guess this is my two year bloggiversary month.  The more involved with blogfrog I am the better my traffic.  I like Trench Mommy have layed off a little the past few weeks because I have been feeling overwhelmed.  I am sure in a few weeks I will be back at it full force.  Good luck to you liz I am sure you will find your niche!

Thanks so much, Brandie!  I really appreciate you all taking your time to answer my questions.

Brandie--happy 2 year Bloggiversary! I know exactly what you guys mean about feeling overwhelmed and having to find a balance. I got in spurts, too. Mostly in terms of where I am active or not (ie--twitter, facebook, ning groups, blog frog, etc) When I'm feeling overwhelmed those are the things that will be eliminated first before the blogging. ;)
