Are you a wait it out kinda mom?

Started by Arizona Mamma , author of Our Daze in the Desert 10/4/2010 2:47:22 PM

When it comes to your kids and their health...if something is wrong, do you take your little ones to the dr. right away, or do you wait it out?

For me, it depends entirely upon what it is that's bothering them.  But typically, I find I am on the side of "better safe than sorry."

I am a follow my gut kind of mom. I think God gave us intuition for a reason we should use it!!

BTW it's so good to have you back!! I was wondering where you went :)

I trust my gut - sometimes I wait it out, and sometimes I freak out :). Usually I'm right (not in what it is, but whether it requires attention).

It really depends upon the symptoms~  I use a great deal of natural medicine and supplments.  I prefer to not pump my chidren full of antibiotics because it breaks down their immunity system.  Sometimes some rest and chicken soup really does the trick.

Blessings,

Tonia,

I've still been here.  Just lingering in the shadows ;)  Did you ever get those books?  If so, have you read them?  If so...do you like them?

UnplannedCooking,

I am the same way.  Usually I am right too, and sometimes that's the most unnerving thing.  Like right now...my daughter has been complaining (though not quite complaining, more like just been bothered), a handful of times about her legs hurting.  I am aware of things like growing pains, however I am aware of bigger and scarier things too.  So, last week when she mentioned it again, I took her to the dr.  I am sure the dr. thinks I am neurotic...but I'd rather be that, then sorry.

Anyway, dr. suspects it's nothing to worry over, but to err on the side of caution, had us get some blood work done anyway.  While I feel assured by her dr. that it's nothing, it's still a bit scary.

Vikki,

I'm with you all the way on unnecessary medicines!  Only once so far has one of my little ones needed any  antibiotic and that was for an ear infection.  No fun!

I did get the books. I read the Luanne Rice book and fell in love with her. I've read 2 other books of hers since. I haven't been able to bring myself to read the other one. It looks really scary lol. I have to read it during the day or when Mike is home.

Tonia,

You're hilarious!  I am like that though if a book is going to be scary.  I have to be sure to read it only when Andy isn't traveling.

I am a nurse so I usually wait it out a little but high fevers I usually only let it go 12-24 hours.  I know that typically means infection that requires antibiotics.  I am blessed in that my kids aren't sick very often.  Thank goodness!

I wait it out, my dh wants me to take the boys to the dr for every little sniffle.  He wants me to take my 3 year old to the doctor now because he won't go to sleep at night, it has gotten worse, used to be he'd finally fall asleep around 10 or 11 (when put to be at 7:30), now it's more like midnight or 1am.  And his eating habits have changed but I'm more inclined to think he's going through a growth spurt and even if he's not what is the doctor going to do?  I may call in a week or so and talk to the nurse if he hasn't returned more to his normal but I'm not freaking out about it.
