Do you have a bed wetter?

Ugh...my stepson is a bed wetter.  It is not just occasional...it is every night.  Poor guy.  He is 11, and showing no signs of stopping.  He pees through pull ups (we've switched to Depends, and they still leak), we have tried the alarm, and we have tried medication from his doctor.  Nothing has worked.  I know his mother wet the bed like this until she was in highschool.  I am wondering if anyone else has gone through this, and if there is something that can be done.  He is in scouts (which means sleepovers) and we so want a way for him to not be embarrassed.  Anyone?

Hmmm...I feel your pain.  My younger son was a bed wetter too.  My doctor said it's hereditary, and my husband admits that he too was a bed wetter, but I still wonder about that.  We used Huggies pull-ups and they seemed to work about 80% of the time, but sleepovers became an issue as he got older.  My son would keep his pull-up in his back pack and put it on when they went to bed and nobody was ever the wiser.  He was somewhere between 10-11 years old when it really started to tapper off and then just completely stopped.

My oldest son (now 11) struggeled with this for years. No matter what, he was always wetting, whether he drank, didn't drink, etc. Even in the daytime he was going constantly. Our dr was concerned and did some testing and found he had polyuria. They gave him some meds that helped a bit, but not totally. Finally one day, we had run out of pull ups (he was actually in the bigger Goodnight ones by this time) and since I wasn't going to be going to town (they don't have them here at our local store) for a few days, he had to go without. He was fine from then on. Literally has not wet since, and that was after 8 years or so of wetting every.single.night.

I think it was mostly psychological. Yes, he has a condition where he produces way more urine than normal, whether he drinks or not. Yes, he is a super deep sleeper. (I can yell and shake him and he doesn't wake up.) But, the main problem, for him, is that he subconsciously knew that he had a "back up" and basically knew that he didn't have to get up and go. Now he just wakes up and goes, and goes back to sleep.

It's so so hard when they get older like that, I hope you can find something that will help your stepson!

Also, in regards to what Lori said, I've heard it can be hereditary also. Neither hubby or I wet the bed, but FIL struggled with it into his teen years.

Andrea-

I wondered too if it was psychological.  But when we did the alarm thing, he wasn't wearing a pull up...and it made no difference.  The really hard thing is that the alarm did show signs of helping him.  He went from wetting like 5 times a night (we know because the alarm sounds) to one and a very small handfull of times, none.  But his mom stopped using hers at her house because she moved in with her (now fiance and his three boys) and Drew was embarrassed about it.  I understand Drew's embarrassment...but sadly, any progress we made has since been washed away.  Like I said...he pees through the pull up and wets the bed every night.  The laundry is out of control!  But worse, I can't imagine how uncomfortable it is to wake wet every day.

That's hard. Plus, I know if he is anything like my 11 year old, being embarassed, even if only family knows about it, is so hard.
