Genealogy

Does anyone do genealogy?  I started about  4 years ago and I'm only in the 1840's, but it is so much fun.  I'm hoping to make time to go back and continue my research when AM's contest is over!  HA!

Go on and get started on it again!  I'm okay with it! I'll send you pictures of me in those sweet flip flops! lol

I used to threaten to look up our family tree, and my dad swore all I'd find was horse thieves hanging in it.  How do you even get started with that?

Ha!  I use ancestry.com. It's so interesting to find old cencus records, death and marriage records, militrary and imigration records too.  I found my great great grandfather and I have a huge binder for both sides of the family.

It's just so time consuming though but rewarding.

How fun!  Ahhh.  There are so many things I want to do.  SO MANY.  I am very ambitious about wanting to start things, then peter out when it comes to follow through.  But this does look like fun!

I've just recently caught that nasty little genealogy bug.  I'm lucky in that the family history had been started long ago by other members of the family.  I have also made some fantastic finds on the Internet, extending my lineage farther back than I ever imagined I would.

Currently I have traced one little branch of this ever expanding tree back to 1155.  Now all I have to do is the hard part, confirming the information with some valid research.  It's a long process, but I have been finding so many resources for records search and other thing on-line, that it's getting much simpler.

The next step is to actually document my finds, and properly cite the sources.  This is developing into the truly the most time consuming portion of the process.  I have a good program for this process, and it's been a life saver.

I've been keeping a blog about the process, and my finds, along with a few helpful tips I learn along the way.  I'm having fun with it all, as I progress, and learn new things, it seems, each and every day. I hope everyone has just as much or more fun and success with their research.
