Fresh, frozen, or canned?

Started by Lori , author of Lori's LOLz 5/1/2010 10:33:50 PM

Fresh is totally my first choice, but since it's not always possible I'd have to say that I tie for frozen or canned.  Some canned veggies are just gross and soggy like canned zuchinni and canned asparagus.  But canned corn and peas are fine to me.  And frozen is ok as long as its not in the freezer forever and ends up with freezer burn.

Sprouts is my favorite year round place to buy veggies and the farmer's market is my favorite place in the summer to shop for veggies.

I say fresh too.  Then frozen, I guess...but we pretty much always are able to have some fresh veggie with dinner.

The exception is peas.  I like them canned.  Not frozen.  Yuck on the frozen peas.

fresh and then depending on what the veggie is whether it is frozen or canned.  beans canned.  Peas frozen.  Corn Frozen.  tomatoes canned

Fresh veggies are preferred most of the time; however, I always have frozen chopped spinach (for lasagna or under fish that will be cooked in the oven), frozen peas and frozen corn. I also like the frozen mix of corn, peppers, onions and black beans. Put some of this on a tortilla with some cheese and salsa, zap it for 30 seconds and you have a great quesadilla.
Frozen edamame are also convenient.

Fresh, then frozen.  I always "put up" fresh stuff in the freezer during the summer months.  And this year, I'm venturing into canning. Excited!

Spring, Summer, and early Fall...definitely always fresh from the garden.  I tried to freeze my own veggies last year with what we had left over and it didn't work very well!

I'm with you LuluLola, I'm tackling canning this year!!! :)

Canning sounds like a whole lot of hard work.  I can't wait to hear how it goes for both of you.  Where do you get your information from on 'how to'?

I'm a canner and I just wanted to let you know that if you are intersted in learning more about canning or want to share what you already know, I am hosting a "Canning week blog party" August 23-27.  It should be a fun time with lots of tips, recipes, give-a-ways and a linky party all related to canning.
