Do you have "bad words" at your house that really aren't "bad words"?

Started by LulaLola , author of Lula Lola 3/10/2010 11:24:59 AM

I wrote a post about this.  I've got a long list of words I don't let the kids use.  Not real, official profane words, just impolite(in my opinion) words.  We don't say dummie, stupid, fart.......

Am I the only mom that doe this?

Crap, good one!  We hate that word.  Not allowed here either!

I don't know if this is a southern thing, but we even make them say Yes m'am, No m'am, yes sir and no sir.

Glad to know we aren't the only ones!

Ummm...we may or may not say crap, I'll never tell.  We don't say "hate" or "stupid."

We live in Ga.  but we are not at the Yes M'am  or Sir point yet, but as long as they respond with a proper YES or NO.Thankyou, we are fine with it

Arizona Mamma says crap

Funny!

I'm in SC, small, small town.  And even though I'm almost 40, I still say "yes m'am and no m'am"  to anyone older than me.  I don't realize how old I'm getting sometimes and catch myself saying it to people that are not that much older and I know it makes them feel like crap.(picking up bad language from Arizona Mamma, sorry) but it's so ingrained that I can't help it.

The teachers at our schools would think you weren't raising your kids right if they didn't come in saying it.lol  I've got friends who teach and even add it in to books they are reading aloud to the little ones.  Otherwise, they're stuck explaining answering questions about why the Magic Tree House kids aren't using their manners.  They say the kids always point it out and it's just saves them the discussion.

Is "crap-ola" as bad as "crap"?? Just askin?  I think it's a little softer to the ears.  But of course, we don't say either at our house. ;)

Let's see, I try to get my kids to say "bum" instead of "butt."  Again, softer on the ears.  For some reason, they still say BUTT with much gusto.

In general, no name calling allowed.

I'm with AZ Mama...words like hate and stupid are "no-nos".  We also never say fat.

My little guy is only 7 months old, so we don't have any bad words that he says yet. I was reading an article on it recently though and I blogged about it also. I am trying to curb my "bad" words before we get to that stage. Here's hoping I don't crash and burn with this one.

Amber, very cute blog.  Love the name.
