Some people decorate trees and figs and roast nuts on open fires to celebrate the coming of the holidays. While I do love nuts, I typically have a different tradition I look forward to each year and that is...The Crafty Christmas Party with Mrs. Claus.

Holiday Traditions

That's right, the weekend before Christmas Mrs. Claus shows up at my house to throw a Christmas Party  designed just. for. kids. And while that kind of thing generally goes against everything I stand for, Mrs. Claus embraces the children and the crafting and the mess.

My small nieces and nephews and little friends begin with breakfast. Good crafting is not done on an empty stomach so Mrs. Claus fills the little bodies with pancakes, syrup hot cocoa, and any other form of sugar she can get her hands on.

As soon as the children are adequately filled with sugar, Mrs. Claus walks them through a number of ornament making crafts. The children try their hand at Mod Podging fabric to glass ornaments. A lovely mess that doesn't bother Mrs. Claus ONE BIT.

Holiday Traditions

The children learn to make snowman ornaments from their handprints and pretty minty looking ornaments. Mrs. Claus loves to take her time with each child and encourages them to get creative.

Mrs. Claus marvels at each of their beautiful creations!

And at the end of the day? The children leave with a bag filled with their very own homemade ornaments, delicious Christmas cookies, candy canes, and a pat on the head from Mrs. Claus herself!

And Mrs. Claus??

She beckons her elves for some help with the clean up situation...she's getting too old for that you know?

Holiday Traditions

I wish some of you would invite Mrs. Claus to YOUR home for a Christmas party. She would certainly start a great new tradition for you too!

That looks so fun!! Our favorite holiday tradition is to decorate the tree while listening to Elvis Christmas music.

My husband has a favorite holiday tradition with me, but that is R-rated, and probably not for public discussion. How about this: every Christmas eve, after going to a candlelight service, we set out a lovely spread of a selection of gourmet cheese, dried meats and salamis, crackers, bread, and fruit. We all look forward to this celebration very much!

Love the ornaments. Looks like a fun day. We always get new PJS on Christmas Eve...does that count as a traditom?

That Mrs. Claus sure has a lot of patience ;) My favorite tradition is baking holiday goodies with my family.

Well, Anna, my husband happened to be passing by the computer as I was reading Kat's post, and I asked him what he thought our favorite Christmas tradition was, and what he said was, indeed, a lovely tradition, but, as I just said...probably not suitable for polite conversation. Can you say "overshare"? I thought you could! :-D

Wow. Mrs. Claus rocks! May I put in my bid for her services for 2012? I honestly don't have a tradition (yet). We're establishing a few this year, though.
