Blogger or Wordpress?

Started by Julie , author of Cozy @ Home 10/21/2011 9:37:41 PM

I used Blogger for my blog, and I love how easy it is. Lately I've been hearing that Wordpress is a lot better to use and you will also get more hits with it. I tried wordpress and I had the worst time figuring it all out.

What does everyone think, and what do you use?

I also had a hard time figuring out Wordpress. I load pictures easily with Blogger but couldn't figure it out with Wordpress.  Also, I hear that using Wordpress.com and Wordpress.org are totally different.  When you use Wordpress.org you can advertise your business but with Wordpress.com if you advertise your business the blog is removed.  Have you heard this also?

I haven't heard that, but I was like you I had the worst time iwth pictures and everything. I just heard that google search is better when you have wordpress, I guess you get a lot more hits.

I looked at both when I started, and was able to fumble my way through blogger easier than wordpress... so thats where I started my blog.

I've only been blogging since early September.  Started on blogger, then decided to get my own site with hosting and all that stuff (that I still have a hard time understanding).

Anyway, blogger was great.

The girl that did my web design said "if you ever plan to move to wordpress, do it now and I can move your blogger stuff over to it now."

She set me up with wordpress and basically handed over the keys.

I LOVE IT.

Not hard at all to get used to for me.  Now, I did bumble around for a couple of days, but that's about it.

I can honestly say, after using blogger for about 2 weeks then moving over to wordpress, I had no problem.  I don't think I gave myself enough time to get too "used" to blogger though.

Lots more functions and lots more stuff to do with your blog with wordpress.  I highly encourage you to give it another go.

And I'm not brilliant and don't know near what there is to know on it, but would certainly help and answer any questions I could.

Best of luck regardless!!

Well I'm a new blogger and so alot of what I read before I even started said that Wordpress was better in the LONG run.  But I think blogger is probably a fine place to start:)

I do use Wordpress however:)

Blessings

Shari

Julie, WordPress is a whole other beast compared to Blogger. There are definite Pluses though if you move to WP - the Search Engine Optimization is far better and thus making it easier for people to find your blog.

I think it just depends on what you plan to do with you blog...if you want to just have a simple personal/family blog then I would just keep it on Blogger. If you want to expand your audience and get your name out there then I would definitely suggest moving to WP.  Hope that helps.

Is it true about the .org and .com? Which one can you advertise a business on? I am thinking of switching to WP but have been with Blogger for YEARS!  I like the drop down menu on WP so I can provide lots of info.  Any thoughts?

Thanks!

I've used both. Here are my thoughts: I liked Blogger because it is very easy to use. I did not like Blogger because I wanted a blog layout that had more functionality. And I did not like Blogger because of the glitches that happen from time to time.

I like WP because of the templates and layouts available. BUT, WP can be hard to figure out, if you want to tweak a template with CSS. My stats have improved greatly with WP though.

Oh, and if you are considering moving to WP, go with self hosting (Wordpress.org) instead of Wordpress.com.

You can't use any special widgets on wordpress.com ( ex. you GFC follow widget)

I definitely would suggest you try Wordpress, especially since it seems you have a business.

as far as advertisements  I have seen them on bloggers websites who have the dot org- so it seems that it would be fine.

Blogger is great for the new/casual blogger that is not wanting to grow, or evolve into something bigger.

You can do a lot with blogger pretty easily. But if you want to grow, evolve, and join the rest of the bloggers in this century, I would suggest starting with WordPress, or even look into moving to WordPress as soon as you can.

You don't have to get a self hosted one instantly. Id suggest starting with the wp.com version just to get used to how the system works (posting/images/themes), then once you think you are ready and understand it I'd look into finding a good hosting company that offers support on WordPress (installing, customization, support) and jump on the boat and get to it.

Once on the self hosted (wordpress.org) you now have full control over your blog, and all its features. This opens up the option for plugins, fully customizable themes, and much more.

But it is up to you to make the plunge to do it. You can do anything you put your mind to.

Also, don't be afraid to ask questions, search google, or just play around and figure things out for yourself.

The internet is a never ending knowledgeable, USE IT!
