I'm in the market for a new camera and would like to know the pros and cons of the DSLR (digital, but not point-and-shoot) Nikons versus Canons.  Anyone can offer their advice, because I am totally indecisive at this point and have no preference.  Thank you so kindly for your help.

I just went to Blissdom and asked around and it looked like 85% of people had Cannons.  When asked why, people mostly said because that's what everyone else had.

My wife just bought her first DSLR and did a ton of research of Nikon vs. Cannon and the conclusion was is that they are both great cameras.  You probably can't go wrong, so find one that is a good deal.  My wife found the new Nikon D3000 for $350.  It is refurbished (a little scary) but looks and works brand new.

It's true--they are both great. My recommendation is always to handle both and see which one feels more natural in your hands.

I have a series of tutorials on my blog called Bloggography, and they're written by a Canon user (me) and a Nikon user (Manic Mother) and we do talk about differences.
