The Danger of Comparison

Are you tempted to compare yourself to others, especially moms? How do you deal with this? How do you encourage others in their individuality?

I am constantly comparing myself to others, and finding myself lacking, even when I'm not.  I seem to hunt down the things they appear to be better at and focus only on that, rather then try and appreciate what they can bring to the relationship and acknowledge the different thing I can bring to the table.

On the other hand I'm great at building someone up and showing them how important they are!

God has called me to a specific purpose. He hasn't called me to be like anybody else, but to obey His specific calling on my life. When I take my eyes off Him and start looking around, I start to "compare" (and not add up). I need daily (sometimes hourly) reminders that He is the One that I need to 'impress' - not others. Learning to live Romans 12.15 - "Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep" - and keeping my eyes on Jesus is key.

Thanks, Ashley and Lisa, for chiming in! I agree with you both. This is just a constant struggle of mine. ;)

No I have never compared myself, or what I have, with others, and I think it is one of the secrets of being contented in life.
