Aggression in Nonverbal children

Started by amalia , author of observations from a special needs mom... 7/13/2010 10:41:52 AM

Does anybody have any special needs nonverbal children that exhibit aggressive behaviors?  If so what have you done about it?  I am struggling with a 13 year old boy with CP who is getting very aggressive and I don't really know how to handle it.

Amalia,

Dos he have any means of communication like PECS or augmentative device for getting his needs known?

Is this something new?

My son is not entirely verbal, but able to use ASL. Still he is very young (2 1/2) so his kind of meltdown and or behaviors would be very differently handled.

We  have a fairly new M3 and are still learning how to use it.  So in reality he has no means of communication other than hitting, crying and laughing.  But lately he has been really bad. I have tried punishing him but that does not work....thanks for any input...
