Portrait Lens for Tight Spaces...

While I adore my 85mm 1.8 for most portraits, I sometimes find that, in tight spaces, it's just too much distance.

What's a really great, somewhat affordable portrait lens for when you just don't have enough space to use an 85mm?  My 50mm 1.8 I just find to be too slow, and too soft for portrait work. (don't get me wrong, I love the lens.....for the price, you just can't beat it!)  I was thinking of upgrading to a 50mm 1.4, or a 28mm 1.8 (Or possibly a used 20-35mm 2.8L)

What lens do you like in tight spaces?
