(don't get me wrong, I love the lens.....for the price, you just can't beat it!) Over the last year, I have discovered and developed a strong love for photography. When my son was born this past July, I had the privilege of having a fabulous photographer present for the birth and also for a newborn photoshoot. During my time with her, we talked about photography and she said she will need an assistant soon and to call her when I recover from birth and get my son to take a bottle so I can be away from him for some time. I was super duper excited for this opportunity! Well, my son is 3 months old now and he takes a bottle pretty well when needed so I called this photographer. She asked me if I have a professional camera and I said no. She needs someone who has a professional camera. :( She has a used Canon EOS that she will sell me but I don't have $350 lying around. I just feel bummed out and it's like I'm missing out on the opportunity of a lifetime all because of $350. :( That is all. Just needed to get that out, I guess. I'm much more into natural light photography. BUT... Lately, I find myself getting hired to do weddings, and you don't have much of a choice BUT to use a flash in a dark church, or reception hall with "mood" lighting..... So, I need to upgrade my Zeikos 680ex to a Canon speedlite.....the fact of the matter is, it's far too inconsistent to be able to rely on for something as important as wedding photography. So, now I need to decide whether to get the 430ex or the 580ex..... I have a Canon 50D. What do you guys use when you have to use a flash, and do you get good results? I know the 580 makes a HUGE difference on a full frame camera, but given the 50D has a cropped sensor, will it make as much of an impact? Is it worth the extra money? My son says it's way OLD. I also have software that came with my HP Photosmart all in one, but to tell you the truth, I don't think much of it's capabilities, like sharpen.
