What post-picture processing do you use?

Started by Julie , author of The Peanut Gallery...Exit Here 1/26/2010 9:50:58 PM

Hi, just wondering what everyone's favorite photo editing programs are.  I use photoshop elements 6 (yes...archaic!!)  but I love it.  Especially with Rita from Coffeeshops free actions.  I was convinced before I found her that I needed Photoshop CS4 but now I am happy.

Do you all have favorite actions, techniques that you like to use.

Monica, I love your processing.

I have PSE 7, but I barely use.  The only time I use it is if I have to brighten up eyes on my subject, but other then that I haven't taken the time to learn it.

The program I use on all my pictures is Lightroom 2.  I love it!  It is very easy to use.  I use most of the techniques that it gives you.  The best part are the presets.  This allows you to change the appearance of your picture(i.e. sepia, b/w).  Lightroom comes with some presets when you buy it, but you can download others for free from other sites.  I use www.presetsheaven.com.  I know you can download LR2 for a free 30-day trial.  After my 30 day trial, I went to ebay and bought it for $99.  It was definitely worth it.

I was using Photoshop elements 8 - downloaded the trial and then purchased it last month but I'm really liking Lightroom as well. There is a beta version of Lightroom 3 for download that can be used until April.

I love Lightroom Beta 3. I will have to delete is in April but I am hoping it is not too much money for the full version so I can save and buy it. :)
Laney- I'm going to check out that website for other presets!

I have Gimp, but I haven't really learned how to use it.

Heather...I actually learned on Gimp!!  Once you learn that...you can learn anything!!  It is actually an amazing program.  The only problem being that there are not nearly as many options...such as actions...to use with it!  But it is a quite powerful program. ANd for the free price...you can't go wrong.  I'll have to check out Lightroom.  I love pictures that have been edited with it.

I have Photoshop CS3 but I do the vast majority of my processing in Lightroom (I still have LR1). I love it!

I use Paint Shop Pro X2 and it serves me well!

I have Photoshop cs3 so that is what I use.  I was really blessed to have someone give it to me.  :-)

I love the Pioneer Woman actions!

I use Gimp.  Can't afford anything else right now.  I'm learning how to use it better and I'm putting tutorials on my blog as I learn!

Okay, here's my problem. We run linux on our home computers, so all I have is GIMP to use on my harddrive. I wish there were more GIMP tutorials! I'm so thankful for the ones Jamie has already posted :) I'm determined to learn to use this program!

Then my husband's coworker felt bad for me. So he gave me an old Windows computer with Photo shop. I have no idea what version it is. Supposedly I can switch back and forth from each computer on my monitor, but its a pain! I have to have the tutorial webpage up on my linux computer and my program up on my other computer, and then i have to transfer my picture to a memory card to put it on the PS computer.... blah blah blah. I'm lazy and that's too much work!

I also have a light room program (not sure which one) that someone sent me as a zip file. I don't know how to unzip it and put it on the Windows computer, because the file is on my Linux computer.

Sometimes I hate being married to a computer geek, cause I don't understand the language!
