I'd love to have some good decorating disussions on here!

Started by Rhoda , author of Southern Hospitality — Adventures in Decorating, Thrifting, Cooking & Garde 7/8/2010 5:35:31 PM

In an old decorating forum that I was a member of for many years, we had a lot of fun sharing ideas and asking opinions on the board. It was one spot that we could all come to bounce ideas off each other, share things that we had done, and just discuss a lot of different topics.

That's what I'd like to see here.  We can upload pics and share links, so there are all sorts of things we can talk about.

Anyone have a decorating dilemma or something you want to start off the conversation with?  I will try my best to check in here frequently for topics and keep things going.  I'll try! wink

Hi Rhoda -- I'm brand spanking new to BlogFrog too, but I love this idea. Less formal than on actual blogs, but a great way for us all to send out our decorating dilemmas and give each other input.

My big dilemma right now is whether to gut our kitchen when our plan is to sell in a year (or so... you never know with this market!). I will get some pics together of the current/"before" and the planned "after" look. But are others facing a similar dilemma, or have you dealt with one? Any one have some insight to share?

Thanks!!

Hi, Tanja, how about posting some pics & I'll bet we'll get some opinions going on that.  I would hesitate to tell you to gut a kitchen if you are planning to sell in a year or 2. That is SO expensive & I think you could do a facelift to make it look better for a little $$. I've done a few kitchen projects myself!

Tanja,

I'm planning on doing a facelift for our outdated kitchen.  $700-$1000 for new hardware, added trim to existing cabinets, painting, new light fixtures, and adding some open shelving seems a lot more doable (both financially and emotionally) than a total redo.  But I agree post some pics!

I thought I'd share a picture of my next project. This is a headboard that was in my husband's family. It's nothing fantastic, but it was free! I'm hoping to start working on it this weekend. I generally only have weekends to work on larger projects so this might take some time. I'm going to paint it a soft white color I chose from Valspar. I can't remember the name, tho. It's either whitewash or queen anne's lace, something like that.

I love this idea.  Tanja, I would agree with the others.  If a move is in the near future, a total redo of the kitchen may not be necessary.  Who knows what the future owners will want anyway.  If the kitchen has some good "bones" a facelift with new paint, kitchen cabinet pulls, etc can go a long way to updating it for resale.

Nancy, that is a beautiful headboard and will be so pretty painted creamy white. You'll have to show us when you are finished with it.  I love paint projects! Instant gratification.

I can see a table done in maps.....and the pictures done in black and white.....but the wall done in maps might  be too much.......if they have medals ..maybe a shadow box and hang  those on the wall.... it just seems to me that a small room with maps for wallpaper might be, as you said, overkill.

I wanted to share pictures of my painted headboard. The "before" was posted previously in this thread. I used Valspar's "whitewash" color. I distressed it a bit as you can see in the closeup. This is the first project of many that I want to do in our bedroom. I've taken some shots for  the distressing that I did on the headboard. Some people just don't like it. frown

Nancy, I love your painted bed. That turned out really pretty!

We just got a mirror hung in our foyer, which completes a project I started over a year ago (yikes, I know!) Looking at it now, it looks like a big bare spot underneath the mirror. Can anyone offer suggestions of what I can do there, or should I just leave it? http://bit.ly/95Xhik Would love to hear what you all think! Thanks! :)
