My "Priceless Fun" Challenge...

Started by Keri Lyn , author of Blog | She Saved 4/15/2011 9:00:11 AM

As the sun is coming out (finally!) this spring... I am MORE than ready for it. I feel like winter was endless this year (seriously... we had snow last Saturday for crying out loud!) My kids and I are dying to get outside and play in the sun. As my kids are getting older (the time is flying by!) ... I am trying to find more and more ways to make the most of our "free" time. And... as I have learned (and am learning) as a mother, you can't always predict or plan what the funnest times will be ... but I have learned from experience that the best times, are usually the "free" times. The times when you didn't plan, or pay, or order, or design... they just happened. Right there in your FREE time ... a priceless moment popped up. A moment that didn't cost you a dime, but there is was .. right in front of you to be forever burned in that memory that only Mom's have... the memory that has you standing outside their rooms at night smiling and you look in on their little tucked in bodies. The memory that makes you laugh because if it didn't make you laugh, it would surely make you cry. You don't have it on video... because real true "FREE" moments just happen... hardly ever to be captured on film, but they are there in your Mommy heart... forever.

So... my challenge for April is going to be to create more priceless FUN moments with my family. I would love to have you join with me and share your challenges and tips for making these fun times happen for your family.

Stay tuned next month to read my Genius Tip on how I beat this challenge!

my biggest fun challenge is to race my boyfriend up the stairs to see who gets the TV first. Its a great way to keep active and also allows either one of us some much needed TV time! :)

My biggest FUN Challenge is going to be to more energetic and enjoy the time that I have with my dog. I spend most of the time in the summer working and hanging out with friends, but I never seem to take my dog for walks or runs or anything because I am so busy. I challenge myself to keep her active and make sure that she knows I love her!

Geocaching... there is an initial investment. But the fun you can have hunting treasures with your family is great. You can hike, bike and drive to geocaches near you. Just grab your GPS and head on over to www.geocaching.com, sign up and find caches in your area. Its an inexpensive way to get fit and have a little adventure with your family. (I am in no way affiliated with geocaching.com ... other than a member myself.)
I've also Liked Kenmore. I'd love to enter the drawing. Thanks.

To just "let" it happen, I'm big on organizing and that just doesn't work when you have three kids not even a little bit close in age.....seems like when I relax and don't "plan" everything, it works out so much better and everyone ends up having a spectacular time :)

My Biggest FUN challenge is going to be to enjoy neighborhood walks with the family more this year! We really want to get to know our neighbors and feel like we live in a "community" - I want my daughter to grow up with the same kind of neighborhood as I did! Where the kids all play together and the parents sit out in the yard and chat every weekend! It has to start somewhere, so I guess we'll let it start with us!

My challenge was taking my kids and neices and nephews to the zoo on a day with rain. We were making the best of it, sharing the zoo key for all the zoo information boxes, bagged lunches, taking pictures - then the rain came. Of course we had no jackets or umbrellas. I ran to the concession stand and asked to buy some of their garbage bags. for less than a $1.00 we had our new rain coats. We put a few holes for necks and arms, and off we went to see the rest of the animals. To this day, the kids laugh and ask if it's going to rain, - it must be a good day to go to the zoo.

Last night we had some spontaneous fun. When my kids like a song on the radio or at home, I have been copying it to a playlist of Kids' Dance Songs. Last night after they got their PJs on, I got the playlist going and cranked up the volume and we danced together downstairs. It was so silly, fun, and free! I'm challenging myself to do this more often! They loved having this fun time with mom, and it was actually great exercise!
