For those of you who home school your kiddos, how do you handle friends and family? We home school our 6 year old daughter and we also have a 3 yr old and one on the way. We decided to not take the summer off, instead we will be taking a break when dear baby #3 is born in the fall (nov.1 due date). My problem is that it seems everyone in my husband's family wants to take advantage of the summer break and keep my kids for a few days to a week at a time. And of course this completely throws my schedule and child out of whack! So how do you handle (tactfully:)) issues that arise with your family and homeschooling?

My kids are 4, 7, and almost 10. They love granola bars, but they get expensive and are full of junk. I don't know how to make them from scratch. Veggies are always good, but the get tired of them if that's all I have with us. So, what do you take with you on outings or road trips or long days at the park or pool?

Baking

Do you love to bake?

I love how a new pillow feels, but after a couple of months, the cheap ones, and let's face it, those are the ones we buy, begin to have the comfort, fluff and form of a styrofoam plate. Plus, after a while they begin to smell like sweaty hair.
If I wash them, the filling gets all bunchy and they are never the same after that.
Recently, I bought some vinyl pillow protectors which I thought would solve the sweaty hair smell, and it very well might, but now if feels like sleeping on a bag of potato chips. Every time I roll over, it crinkles and crunches. Not exactly restful.
So, what do y'all do to keep your pillows fresh and fluffy?

Car seating arrangement help!

I have a seating arrangement dilemma in my new car with the new baby on the way... My car is a crossover. It seats 7. Driver, Front passenger, 3 across middle bench seat, and 2 across rear bench. Each bench is split in 2 halves and folds- the middle bench seats fold back down and then bottom up so they are against the back of the front seats, and the rear ones fold completely into the floor. Here's where it gets difficult though; my oldest is in a high-backed booster with 5-point harness. She can't buckle herself or lean much or move much at all when buckled in to help. Her assistance is limited to the reach of her little baby arms. My son is only 20 months and is in a forward facing reclining 5-point carseat- no help. My baby due in September will be in an infant bucket carseat. SOMEONE is gonna have to sit way back in the back because the 3 person middle bench is only about 2 1/2 carseats wide. On top of that, the middle bench is positioned such that to get into the back seat you have to fold the seat down. Which won't work if there's a carseat buckled into it. See what I'm getting at? Should I put both my toddlers in the very back and hope they don't need anything important in the middle of a drive, or just the older one and then completely remove the infant seat every time we get in and out, or should I fold one of the 2 rearmost seats into the floor and have her climb into the remaining half of the back bench through the hatchback? And once she's in there, how do I grow my arms out to twice their length to be able to reach that far over so many carseats and car seats to buckle her in? :D (We've been trying to teach her how to buckle herself but frankly they made the buckle on that thing so that Hercules is the only one who can open it. I nearly break my fingers every time I try to operate the thing.)

Speech Therapy at Home

I have a 9 year old who has never perfected the "R" sound. Since we are a homeschooling family, I'm wondering if anyone has done "therapy" at home, or must you go to a school or therapist for this? I'd like to help her correct it before she gets much older.

Bloggy Blog Designz is having a giveaway!!!

Need a blog makeover? I'd like to hear which plugins (WordPress) or widgets (Blogger) that you have found that make your blog better and easier to navigate. I recently added a plugin that adds a signature to each of my posts and know that Connie also has one. I also use the YARPP (Yet Another Related Post Plugin) this includes related posts at the end of each post. I prefer YARPP to linked within because I have a lot more options (how many posts to display, with or without a picture, what factors to consider when selecting related posts an the ability to exclude certain categories. For WordPress users, there are some great SEO plugins. I use Platinum SEO and have seen several of my posts hit the top spot on Google. WordPress also has WP-DBManager that automatically backs up your blog. And one of my absolute favorite, the "organize series" plugin. This links all of your posts in a given series together. You can see how cool this is here. So now that I've shared some of my favorits, I'd love to hear yours.

Need Childrens Church Ideas!

I use to be a preschool teacher when I had my first baby then retired (lol) after my first baby turned 1 1/2. I also have taught childrens church at our 'mother church'. Now we have been pioneering our church for 6 1/2 years. I have always been in charge of it and taught it. Now we have remodled our childrens church. New walls, new classes. We have a Mommy room (moms and their babys), walkers (1-3 yr olds), 3-5 yr old, 6-12 yr olds.I love it and have some great teachers that are learning to teach childrens church.Does anyone have any helpful input for teaching the toddlers or preschoolers in childrens church? What do you want or expect in a childrens church for toddlers or preschooler age?Songs, schedule, format, activities, expectations??????I would love to hear as many as I can.WendyMommy to 7. 9 and under.

What is the biggest mess a child of yours has ever made?

Just this week, I walked into my bathroom to discover my 1 year old with a full box of 60, er... personal hygiene items. She was patiently and carefully taking each one out of the box and peeling the paper off to reveal the sticky backing.Once, when my 12 year old son was little, he dumped out a full 5 lb. bag of sugar and spread it on the floor so he could "ice skate".What is the biggest mess you have had on your hands?

Blog Design

Well, I've changed my blog again.
So what do you think? What do you like to see in a blog's design? What bugs you? Have I overlooked some important element? Do I have something that desperately needs changing? Go ahead and tell me what you think!

Early, On Time or Late?

Our family likes to be on time. We strive to be on time. If we show up at any point after the announced starting time of an event, we consider ourselves late.
For instance, if a party starts at 6:00 and we arrive at 6:01, we consider that late.
I have noticed, though, that some folks don't consider themselves late until 15, 30, or 45 minutes after the start time.
What about you? Are you the early, on time, or late type? What do you consider "late"?
