Over the years we have tried to reduce the number of gifts we exchange (especially with people that really don't need or want anything), but they insist on getting us gifts.  We have told them NOT to!  I can't describe how awkward it is when they want us to open their gifts and we have nothing for them.   

Don't get me wrong, we buy plenty of gifts, but we are trying to keep it for the kids only pretty much (and our immediate family).

Do you have this issue, or something similar?
