Nail polish in pregnancy?

Started by Stacy 7/12/2010 5:59:44 PM

Hi, I have recently heard that it is not advised to use nail polish while pregnant as some of the yucky chemicals are absorbed into your nails and can be harmful. So my questions are, did you all use nail polish while pregnant or have you heard anything negative about using it? Thanks!

I am currently pregnant and I have been wearing polish on my toes.  I've read that too, but decided there are a million "warnings" about pregnancies and you'll drive yourself crazy worrying about all of them!  I've also read that getting a mani/pedi is perfectly fine.  Maybe just not every day where you might be inhaling the fumes all the time.   Just like anything else, moderation is key!

I agree with Ashley. You can worry yourself silly with reports of "this is dangerous" or "that is horrible". I can't imagine that nails are a very "absorbent" place on your body...but, if it does worry you, try using some kid friendly polish.

I know, once upon a time, Bath and Body had some polish for kids.

Enjoy your pregnancy...and even a mani/pedi here and there!

Agreed. Moderation is key. Afterall, breathing in your household air is hazardous, but I don't think stopping breathing is the answer. Just shallower breaths ;)

Ha! Kelly...you crack me up!

I had pedicures my whole pregnancy, like once a month. I agree with everyone that moderation is the key. Besides, with some of the meds I had to be on, a little nail polish was the least of my concerns.
