Water birth...

Started by nicole , author of Modern Style Mama 7/6/2010 11:49:36 AM

I prefer the all natural way.  I have had to natural medication free births and one epidural.  Im not against epidurals and I did need one but I would just prefer to avoid this time around.

I am very excited because my midwife just delivery a baby via a waterbirth for the first time.  I didn't think we could do them here in upstate NY.  It is my hope that I will be able to have one with this pregnancy.

Have you ever had a waterbirth?   What was your experience?

"Waterbirther" here as well...my 2nd was a water birth.  Amazing, most pain free, empowering experience.  Truly amazing and spiritual.  Beautiful.  Definitely if you have the option, look into it.

Women were made to have babies.  It is what God intended.  Our bodies know what to do.  Too many births are treated as a "medical condition".  Labor and birth are natural conditions our bodies can handle most of the time.

ACK!!! Pushing it back IN????? Are you serious?!

I think I'll leave the car/nearlycar birthing up to you and Jodie!!

I agree that our bodies are made to have babies...in fact, I'm probably a "minority" amongst my co-workers, but I firmly believe that we can support women in their desire to have the birth experience they want, without shoving medical interventions down their throat!

I work in a community that has a HUGE number of OB's, no midwives, and a few family practice docs that deliver...so, I guess it shouldn't surprise me that we're very "medical interventiony". ;)

Terra, that's so true! Cubbie and I really have this special bond that I just can't describe too.

The water birth was absolutely the most intense, empowering, amazing experience - probably of my life truly. I could feel every single cell of that little body being born from me - and to this day - i wonder if that's why she and I have such a weird crazy connection. i mean - I connect with all of my babies in their own ways - but with K2, it is very intense. Much like her birth was.

All I have to say is I have LOTS of repect for all of you that choose not to have medication. I can tollerate pain very well.... child birth... ehhh not so much. I ended up getting the epi, which made me feel like a failure to start with... then turns out the epi never takes, so I end up having a med. free birth afterall. IT WAS HORRIBLE for me. My pelvic area was just to small and it was ripping me apart in every which way. I never hurt so bad in my life. They ended up having to do an emergency C-section even after her had crowned because his shoulders wouldn't pass through. It was heart breaking and I felt horrible for not being able to pushing him out. I have to have c-sections if I ever want more kids. I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to be able to have a water birth though. I think it would be peacefull vs. being on a hospital bed pushing and screaming. Just my two cents. LOL!

BUT Let me tell you. Either way there is just nothing more beautiful than brining a child into the world! What a blessing!

I'm an idiot. I don't want to scare you. I was a VERY rare case BTW. My doctors didn't catch it because I had moved an my new doctor was not so good. It'll be fine! :)
