Do you enjoy Labor and Delivery?

Started by Mama M. , author of My Little Life 6/7/2010 2:38:32 PM

Does it make me weird that I do? That one of the things I'm going to miss about not having any more babies is that I'll never get to birth another babe?

I love it.

Is that weird? Does anyone else out there actually enjoy the birthing process?

I love that moment just before the baby is born, where it's almost as though the air in the room changes...it's almost electric. I always want to slow that moment down and savour it.

Well, if you're weird, than count me weird as well! :-)

Mama M, we need to get together!  :) I am with you all the way!!!  Like I have told you before I love everything about pregnancy and Labor & Delivery.  All my friends think I am nuts.  I am the only one who truly enjoys being pregnant.  And I am the only one who got morning sickness with all 3 pregnancies.  (Didn't exactly enjoy that part but I knew it was a good sign. :) )  As much as it hurt like hell - I looked forward to giving birth.  I was never scared of it.

My hubby said that's the problem.  Currently  I would love to have just one more.  ( Most days) Four just seems like a  good number, right?!  But hubby wants to be done.  We'll see what comes.

Oh, somedays, I would like to have one more! I've always wanted an even number of kiddos, but...5 is where it stands!

Ooohhh, I love Kate's response.  I know what you mean.  That moment right before the baby is born, is magical.  The air in the room really does change.

I guess I'm weird too.  haha  I loved giving birth.  There's nothing more miraculous in this world then when a baby is born.  It is during those moments that I truly see the hand of God in all it's glory.  Sounds cheesy, but it really was how I felt each time I gave birth.  It is a miracle that leaves me speechless.

Oh, Sarah! Yes!!

No matter how many births I've seen, or will see, the miracle of birth never ceases to amaze me! How newborns go from being completely dependent on their mothers to breathing, eating, crying...even their circulatory systems amaze me!

That one gasp of air can completely change their circulation so that they can survive outside the womb is crazy!

God certainly is at work in those moments...without a doubt!

I LOVED labor and delivery!  All of mine were different and yet perfect in their own way.   And I'm still trying to convince my hubby we're not quite done yet.

Hmmm, Mama M- not quite there yet. My first pregnancy was absolutey amazing, as was the labor and delivery. My little man's pregnancy and labor and delivery, not so much! Ha- it's a good thing he's so cute...j/k;)

Seriously though- he was pressing up against my vagal nerve for the last 2 months of my pregnancy, causing my blood pressure to bottom out at random times of the day, and I'd almost black out. I couldn't leave the house by myself because I'd faint without warning. It was scary, and while it was a fluke thing, I can't imagine going through that again!

Speaking of- Mama M- have any of your patients had this happen? I don't know anyone else who had this issue besides me.

hummm is it only me ...but no....

although my son caused me no labour pains at all...he just came out...

my contractions felt like the extremely bad and debilitating cramps i had all my life....so i realized i had been in labour for 15 years.... luckily the cramps stop after he ws born....

i am afraid if i have another child... they will come back...lol

I do love labor and delivery. My favorite two were born at home, and I'm a labor & delivery/nursery RN. Shows you what I think of how we treat women in the hospital.

Here's one of the most empowering stories
