How often do you read to your kids?

I'm wondering how often other parents read to their kids. Please share the ages of your children too. When my kids were young I didn't skip a day. I would read anytime they asked and usually read three short books each night. Each child would choose one book and I'd read all three. The child who chose the book would sit on my lap. Sometimes their dad would read one or all the books. (Dads really help kids love to read.) Moms do too, but somehow a dad reading a book is extra special.

My kids are 7, 7, and 10. I don't read aloud enough anymore. I have good intentions, but our routine isn't there anymore. I'd say I only read aloud two times per week now. Which is really sad since I write a blog about reading.

I read to them every single day. It is important to start reading to your kids as soon as you bring him home from the hospital.

I also make my children that are old enough to read (except for my teenager) read to me every day. It helps them improve their reading skills.

Good discussion!

Thanks for responding Healthy Moms Magazine! You have a great website. Your kids are very lucky to have such a dedicated mom!

Every night, but mine are still little, 4 and 5. I could see how it might get lost in the shuffle as the kids get older. Since my five year old started reading a few months ago, she also reads a couple books to me and then the girls each pick a book or two for me to read.

Honestly every other day but when I do I it may be on overload because I read several books at a time.
