Do you have any residential design questions for a soon to be graduate with an Interior Design degree?

Do you struggle with picking out furniture, accessories, or paint color?

What topics would you be interested in reading about when it comes to designing your home?

Thanks for the input.  I'm looking for things to blog about that perhaps my readers want to konw about.

My colors are pretty much set as is the furniture...I suppose my biggest thing is what to put on the walls! I am working on a "gallery" of open frames (no glass) to house the kiddies artwork. I figure with it just being the frame no glass or backing...it will be easy to change! lol

Great Question to address.. There are many options when looking for wall decor.  If you want, you can send me a picture and I'd be more than willing to take a look and give some ideas.

Kid's Artwork.
Depending on artwork, you may want to put glass in the frames to keep the artwork in top condition.  Just depends on if your going to continuously change it, and depends if you wanna keep it after you frame it... Just a thought

Okay...I thought of a biggie...

We are MAJORLY lacking in natural light in our home...

Any suggestions on how to maximize what we have, or ways to make rooms appear brighter?

Uh...yeah, I have TONS of questions.  We're doing an addition on our house and then we'll tear down the existing house and rebuild that (pics on my blog).

Kids furniture- we have a hodge podge of stuff for our boys' room.  We want to paint it so it will look relatively uniform.  My husband wants gloss black.  I said "heck no!"  I'd prefer like a dark blue (sports themed room, btw)  What do you think?

for our living room, we are thinking of just doing an accent wall instead of painting all of our walls a deep color (there's a shared wall that goes into the kitchen that we'd like to keep neutral).  Any tips on choosing which wall and a color to look for and/or shy away from?

Thanks!  My.favorite.thread.ever.

Great Question.  Most of the times if natural light isn't coming through... You have to layer the light from natural, to general, to task lighting.  That can be achieved several ways.  Great idea for post.. Pictures and ideas will better explain what I mean...

Sandy,
Wow.. What a renovation.

Please don't let your husband paint their room gloss black..  My opinon on "THEMED ROOMS" are they aren't timeless.  They only last for 2-3 years.  It also depends if you are going to due to theme subtle or if you are going to go sport overboard.  I think that you can do your little boys room in a very sophisticated by timeless manner that you don't have to switch every couple of years.  What are there interest? Favorite Colors? I think the "Sports Theme" can be played in a very subtle way and then 2-3 years from now with a few changes it could be something totally different.  If your looking for more suggestions on this, I can send some pictures or you can send me some information on your boy's space.  I LOVE DESIGNING FOR CHILDREN.

Good question on the accent wall.. I'd put a color on the wall that if you are sitting on the couch you wouldn't stair at.. Maybe its the wall behind the couch or beside the couch depends on your particular space.  When it comes to bedroom accent walls, you put the accent color on the wall that you want the focus (The wall the bed is on).  I'm doing a post on color in the next few days so be looking for it.

Like I've told everyone I could help more actually having pictures or seeing a sketch of the space.

Hope this helps...

Jes!  You're awesome!   Thanks for the pointers on the accent wall- it really helps!

I just told my husband what you said about the gloss black (thank you!).  He's now given up his plight to have it (THANK YOU!).

I agree with the longevity of the boys' room and the themes.  What I really have is just a few accent pieces that can be switched out for something else.  I have ball pillows for the beds, baseball drawer pulls for the dressers and that's about it.  We will be painting the furniture and using basic comforters for the bunkbeds.  The walls are going to be a tannish color and perhaps an accent wall?  Not sure yet.  We did sports because we thought it would have a little more longevity than say Thomas or cars or trains.  I think, if done well, sports can take them into middle school (I hope).  I'm going to stop by and check out your blog.  Love it!

Anytime Sandy... I'm so glad I won him over.  I was starting to get a little worried.
I think the subtle sports theme and the thoughts that you said above are GREAT!  Those are things that can be changed out easily, and inexpensive.  Let me know how things go and if you have any other questions.. Drop me an email.

So, Jes...are you gonna do a post on that for me?! ;)

I can't wait!! Our house was built in the '70's, so we have a lot of little rooms and it seems like no light flows between them!!

Can't wait!
