My town is a one-stoplight town...seriously. Our school has pre-k through 12th on one campus. My father owns a business here that was passed down from his father, and the same goes for my husband's father. When I got a ticket in high school, my coach knew about it before I got to school that Monday. People wave when driving down the road...always. People actually care to know when they ask "How are you?"

...we only have two stop lights
...traffic consists of more than one car being at the same stoplight at the same time
...we only have 1 fast food restaraunt (McDonalds)
...I can write checks at our gas station
...my neighbor plows our roads when it snows
yup, we are pretty small!

oh, yeah, we all waive too!
Funny story, I went to visit my sister where I used to live (in the suburbs) and I waved at her neighbor...her neighbor looked at me like I was CRAZY! Haha...I tend to forget people don't waive at everyone, everywhere! ;)

lol
My town is so small that
One of my neighbors can tell you who left the neighborhood and at what time, with whom they were riding and what time they returned. This might come in hand if she is still here when my kids are teenagers!
We don't even have parades, but Santa rides through the town every year on a volunteer firetruck.
Our Firefighters are unpaid volunteers.
We are known all over the state of Texas as a Speed Trap!
We don't have a grocery store, but just got a BINGO hall!
Our school just installed a sidewalk!
I got a ticket for not using my turn signal...even though I did not turn I merely veered.
The lady that runs our "monthly newspaper" went through the phone book and called us when she saw our birth announcement in the Newspaper for our closest bigger town. When we did not answer, she looked in the phone book for other names mentioned in the announcement, and found my brother who called me to tell me to call her... just so she could get permission to run the announcement.
We give directions in relation to a set of railroad tracks and a state highway.
We might also mention The Old XXX ranch or THE stop sign in those directions.

He he - we haven't got a stoplight. Not even one. Just a cross walk in the middle of town.
No McDonalds. We do have two coffee shops and a Dutch bakery though.
And the town maintenance crew is one lady, I think. She mows the park lawns, the plows the sidewalks, and waters the flower baskets, all with the same oversized lawn tractor.

Our lil' town isn't as small as yours. We have 3 traffic lights! And a pizza place next to McDonalds. And a uni-plex theater that I love because popcorn is $2 a box. If you need clothes, you better like western wear, 'cause that's the only choice! And you can buy chicks, bolts and a saddle while you are there.
When we moved here there was the smallest Walmart I'd ever seen. It was literally the size of a typical convenience store! Electronics was one row, kids clothes had 5 racks, and the clearance was out of this world!

Haha...Kesslermom...you may have 3 traffic lights, but I think we have more fashion options that you though...we have a boutique called "shop-a-doodle-doo." Haha! It even has shopping window displays! It is soo cute!
Jodi - That is too funny the newpaper lady tracked you down...our newpaper editor is my neighbor (relatively speaking...she only lives about 2 miles from us...haha)...yeah, here anyonw who lives within 5 miles of you is consindered your 'neighbor.'
Wow, Chris, not 1 stoplight! Yup, you got me beat! ;)
Oh, and we are about 45 minutes from the closest Wal-Mart...I WISH we had one in our county! ;(

Jody my small town is in Texas too...although I don't think we were ever known as a speed trap. We usually only have one cop. :) Is your town by any chance in West Texas? I went to college in Lubbock, my goodness West Texas has some speed traps! :)

- The fair coming to town is a big attraction that no one misses (some go every day it's here).
- Everyone knows everyone's business, and if you didn't grow up here you will often get the life stories of those who did from 20 different people (who each have different oppinions on where exactly that person went wrong in life - there is no recovering from the mistakes made in high school in a small town!)
- Getting a Target was a BIG deal, and people still talk about the day when we may have our very own Olive Garden.
- People actually want to help eachother move/paint/complete home rennovations. No one pays anyone to do any of their hard labor, because there is always someone willing to lend a hand.
- ECHL hockey games draw a serious crowd, because that's the best we've got to offer as far as pro sports!
