What's your most used spice? (1)

Started by Lori , author of Lori's LOLz 9/28/2010 6:19:06 PM

I love cooking with spices.  This summer we grew parsley, basil, and cumin.  It was so awesome to go outside and pick fresh herbs. I would have to say that my most used spice is garlic powder.

All of these spices are making me want to get creative and start cooking something fun.  Garlic seems to be a favorite here.  I started buying the huge jar of minced garlic, it's the only way I could keep up with using such large amounts.

I would have to say I use Basil and Pepper the most...although I grow many herbs and use them all at different times depending on the dish I'm creating!

I want to come to dinner at your houses!!!! I love garlic, probably the most used, then black pepper. I stay away from salt alot, and when I do I use sea salt. (supposedly much better for you).

I want to learn how to use more spices, I love Indian food, especially curries, and middle eastern, I love spices and just don't know how to cook with them.

I have also started using Tumeric (Dr. Oz says excellent for heart and stroke preventive) and it really has very little flavor so it is easy to put into everything.

Not to be obnoxious, but a lot of things that are being listed are actually herbs; parsley, oregano, basil, cilantro. All herbs.

And garlic is an aromatic. It's technically a vegetable, related to the onion.

If I had to pick my most common spices after salt and pepper, it would be paprika or cumin.

garlic, garlic and more garlic

salt

pepper

vanilla

parsley

oregano

cinnamon

oh my gosh, i love to eat and cook

Sandy, I try to stay away from salt too, but that's hard for me.  I also love Indian food.  The smell of curry and cumin is just wonderful.

I use tons of garlic it is so good for you. Grow it, dehydrate half of it, then eat the rest fresh.

Mine is Italian Seasoning. Does that even count? I'm a horrible cook.
